anybody fish for these with a flyrod? if you fish for blackmouth and can catch them on a fly rod do you use glow in the dark flies? caught everything in the sea last winter trying for a fly caught blackmouth but blackmouth around manchester and PNP. cant wait to start again after these chums disappear.

I have caught them, but never targeted them.
I am usually good for a couple at Doc's or Purdy when targeting SRCs or Silvers on small tube flies or Clousers during the year. I have a buddy that does target them. He fishes the Day Island kelp beds with lead core and tube flies. Although his catch ratio isn't great, some the bigger Blackmouth he has caught have been in the 10# range. He seems to catch a lot of small feeders in the 18"-20" range in the first two hours of the day. After that, he's trolling gear around.

I don't think there is a big following for Blackmouth on a fly, but when the Nookie is in.... well that is another story and a zipper lip.

Actually, there are a lot of BM at Purdy.. I usually start East of the bridge on the North side (under the wires) and will end upon the rip rap to the West. Every one of the keeper BM have been caught have been on the flood West of the bridge (towards the creek). Believe it or not, I have landed a few Steelies headed for Burley Creek too.

I prefer a type 6 shooting head on a 5wt and a small Angel Hair Clouser or a small tube...
If I am shooting for SRCs, I switch over over a to Muddler and drag the bottom. There are a ton of Sculpins down there...
