Sheeesh, yesterday I was online with WDFW looking for virus impacts to the fishing and water access locations. As of noon yesterday, the site claimed water access / launch facilities would remain
open .

Then I got an email late yesterday from the state claiming all were now shut down !?!

Clear directions for sure.......

I imagine this was directed because to many numbsculls would take their friends, non-household members out. Ruins it for those of us that would go out solo on top of putting enforcement in jeopardy. Can't even take a hike down the fishing trail.

Found out yesterday WDFW had a meeting and decided to curtail non-essential operations too. They were going to come in and do a fish study but it's postponed.

WA parks and wildlife sites closed

WDFW has a number of boots on the ground functions "essential" to its ongoing operations... stream/stock survey, creel survey, enforcement, and hatchery production. Unfortunately, the only group deemed essential by the GUV is hatchery staff... falling under the category of "animal husbandry". They take care of live animals and get lumped in with the likes veterinarians and farmers raising critters essential to the national food supply.

This does NOT bode well for any ESA-managed fisheries dependent on intense monitoring. Kiss the CR springer fishery goodbye.

April 8? Why even close it for two weeks (including the last few days of steelhead season for most rivers)? Whether its C&R mortality or virus transmission, the impact of sport anglers on populations is always grossly overestimated.

Can't hurt escapement, lol...I hope they don't start fukking with spring hunting opportunities, too...hunting is by nature a pretty solitary sport.

Fish on...

Fishing on rivers this time of the year can be a pretty solitary sport also.

You would have thought these folks were smart enuff so see bit of lite in the dark here , but no. A possible hedge for some current WDFW funding issues could have ben addressed. A simple fish distancing set of rules, a few common sense virus averse directives from our WDFW, open the boating access, and then advertise the opportunity.

They could be selling a huge number of licenses right now.....

Like Washington they close recreational fishing, no mention of commercial.

It's fine by me if they want to keep shooting their own feet but, God forbid with this time off that I want to take my float tube to the lake and catch a couple trout or bass by myself.

Especially after all of the closures earlier this season.

It's simply enforcement related and an easy way to cut hours.

Can't have school, when the teacher won't teach class. Can't have fishing, when the officer can't write tickets.

Can’t get fishing tickets, when there’s no officer to write them.

Well, it does open up more western Washington parking areas for the fleets of unlicensed , oil leaking, coolant dripping, garbage dumping operators of the homeless campers community...

So the guy that lives on a lake (or PS), or has a vacation cabin, etc with a private launch or moorage can still go boating but not fishing?! But there are no fish cops patrolling to make sure he's doing it safely and with his Boater ID. Probably no local sheriff's on marine patrol either? I see boating, in general, being curtailed shortly also? Maybe it is, and I missed it?

On the Eastside, Lake Chelan has several instances where this would be transpiring currently.
