Actually, for an inexpensive reel rather well done EXCEPT for two items .... the frame is not screwed together so you can't take it apart for a good cleaning, and SECONDLY (and the point of my post) is the reel foot is large enough (thick) that you can't mount the reel on anything but a huge (10wt) type rod.

Problem is given you can't un-screw the 'foot' to grind it down, is there some 'easy way' to accomplish this without screwing up the frame with a '******* file?'

Duct or electrical tape it to the rod. It works had to do it on my 10 weight salmon rod years ago when the reel seat holder cracked on the rod from the extreme pressure put on it from fighting big chinooks. Thats the best I can think of it right now.

I always carry both tapes with me to the river for wader leaks, reel seats that break, rod guides that come loose, and any other thing that may break, such as my car. LOL

This board looks pretty dead, why is that, looking for new steelhead and salmon fisherman to network with seems like I have seen all of the fellows on this one on the other main boards.

Two words-- Dremel tool. Use one of the metal burrs-- they make one that is a cylinder. This has to be done with a steady hand, supreme patience, and a steady hand. Did I say that twice? Take little bitty swipes across the foot and try to slowly reduce it. Another option is to find one of your friends who has a bench-mounted sander that comes with a 1-inch wide sanding belt. That would be the easiest and quickest and most precise.

Since you have more time now to do things like mess around with stuff, you might want to look at one of the sanders. You can find them for less than $70, and if you do much puttering on things, they come in handy. On top of that, they make a pretty good sharpener for things like knives.

Harbor Freight (you can google it) has a bunch of different sanders and Dremel clones for decent prices.
