I hate to resurrect this thread because of this, but my mom now has Covid and has been in the hospital for a week.

Here's why I'm sharing this.

1. For those of you who are deniers, it's as real as real gets.

2. It has attacked her brain but nothing else so far. She's almost completely delirious. She snapped out of it on Saturday but now she's delirious again.

I did a lot of research and only found a couple articles of such a case where it only affects the brain.

So, watch the fvck out, people. Covid is as nasty as you can think and keeps surprising us with its newly found and horrible symptoms.

I wish your mom the best. That is some scary stuff.

That's just awful - I'm sorry to hear this news. I hope she recovers in full. Hang in there and best wishes.

I think the most frightening thing about this virus (okay - besides not knowing whether it would kill you or not) is the long-term effects some survivors are dealing with. Stuff like long-term oxygen deficiency (even moderate) can shorten lives dramatically. I'm afraid we still have much to learn about how COVID infection impacts overall life expectancy, but it's not looking like a pretty picture so far. Seems it affects just about any compromised system in the human body. Yikes.

Hoping for a full recovery! In terms of the thread question, I know 4 but it really doesn't matter how many I know. It is the height of ignorance to look at a large issue only through the lens of your personal experience!

My nephew and his wife and 2 kids all have just recovered after 4 weeks of covid. My other nephew who was staying with them has been in the hospital for 10 days fighting blood clots in his lungs from covid.

Just finished a necessary 3,500-mile road trip and some areas EVERYONE is wearing a mask and in others NO ONE is wearing a mask. Makes me think mask wearing is more of a regional issue than a Conservative/Liberal or Repub/Democrat issue.

We wore masks and more importantly limited our contact with people while on the road. I think masks can help eliminate a certain percentage of viral spread BUT can also create a FALSE sense of security - they're not a magic shield.
