Bear burritos.

Back in the '80's, pard and I use to take horses into a remote wilderness area, packing in our canned goods and other non-perishable items a month or so before go-time. Stashed same in a 50 gallon drum with the standard clamp-lock lid that we rocked-in on its side. We had both seen griz sign in previous years contrary to public official statements but one year we arrived in camp a few days before the opener to find that 50 gallon drum looking like the soup can you bend up to recycle, the canned goods violently emptied about and the big Lodge cast iron skillet in 3 pieces with deep teeth marks cut into each piece. Griz love bacon fat seasoned cast iron....

Hammocks are right at jaw level.
Makes for easy mid body clamping.

Things happen and life priorities happen.

I'll probably not be going after Elk this year after all. I'm entirely NOT happy about it, but it is what it is.

We'll see, but it it's not looking good so far.

Major bummer. frown

Thankfully I'm not in Griz country. I mostly cook away from camp and that helps. I've also run some bank line with a couple of bear bells attached around my camps before. If those bells so much as slightly jingle in the middle of the night, I'mma start blastin' away. I'm an extremely light sleeper in the backwoods, so just knowing I have a bear alarm clock allows me to relax and get some quality shuteye.

Retreat! Yeah - I'm like 95% certain I won't be going after Elk now. This is a strange year and a strange time. The line must be walked...carefully....with steely eyes fixed down range. Winter is coming.

Hard choices ruin all the fun eh?

Shotgun deer is still #1 and decidedly NOT off the table.
I'll never not shotgun me up a deer.
