People have Touch on this on different web-sites and it’s about we think about a little more!

Take the temp of your local river; you will be surprised I’ve seen temps in the 70’s last week!

That is Super Hard on Fish (Steelhead), I would ask you to think a little before you go out fishing.

Thanks,
Brian

I can't tell any one what to do.

Just leave the run in Oso alone, the water is too warm.

I've stop fishing till the water changes or a rain strom.

If you can stick to fishing high up in rivers with good snowmelt/glaciers then you should be fine (although it is good to play it safe and check temps). Or if the river you fish has a dam on it with a large lake to keep it cool. Other than that many of the rivers are getting quite warm.

Thanks Homer. Have stayed clear of below Oso for the past few years casue the low water. Upper river with the brats... undecided. Brats need to get hooked sometime... but incidentals are no good with the temps. Hmmm. I'll err on the side of caution/conservation.

Here is a link that will show you how much snow we don’t have in the mountains:

A friend gave this link to me and I’ve been checking it a lot lately!

Why do you need a link tell you that. All you need to do is look up there and you will see that there isn't much left.

Besides I have been up in the hills fishing. Up where the water is flowing just a little bit faster and is cooler and the fishing still sucks. cry

Give the cold water species a break in these conditions. Poor things are barely surviving in 70 degree temps, although I see they are moving through the fish ladders on one of my rivers real well in 70 degree temps. Go figure !

We're not at that stage (yet) on the Rogue dispite our 95-105 degree days over the past two weeks. Large dam (Warm Springs) is dumping water out at 59 degrees at 1708 cfs.

This will keep the water fairly cool for at least 30'ish miles down stream. Where it's getting interesting is we have several water gages (stream flow) over that same stretch.

We're loosing 200 cfs to evaporation/irrigation; water flows don't get back to 1700 until you get all the way to Grants Pass (60 river miles). At this point there's a lot of algee starting to show (green tint to the water).

Corp of Eng. will give the river a big boost the last two weeks of August to cool and pull up the fall kings/summer run steelhead.

So far (Spring King run has been over 34,000 fish plus 4,000+ summer runs as of 7-20-04) the opportunity to fish has been top end this spring/early summer.
