I've been closely following the college ball situation daily. This as been the longest "bargaining" phase for coming to any sort of Covid "new normal" acceptance that we've seen yet. For lots of teams, fall camps are starting right now. Yikes.
They may try to play D1 football, but it won't last - IMO. I'm like 98% positive on this.
About 2 weeks ago, I had wrote up a good long new thread about my thoughts on "sportsball going forward" with a healthy section on college and pro ball, but I ended up deleting it. The chicken bones have already been cast.
I'm wondering if we should even try to do a college pick em' this year? We've run it for 6 years straight and have probably given (or where supposed to give) a couple grand to Children's Hospital.
This Covid stuff is lame.

Big Sky is a cupcake conference. Some teams are practicing with shields on their helmets. Some players have expressed their concerns about Corona virus. A few are opting out.

All I know is I give a hundred or so to each of the winners. I’ll be happy to host it again.

I mean...we should still try Dwat, I just don't know how. Could possibly do it as we've always done, and if they stop the season, the person with the best record wins. OR something else / different / fun? Happy to help figure it out. I believe the first games are on August 29th, but that some conferences won't even start until late September.

Following the Pac-12 CEO Group’s July 10 decision to move to a Conference-only football schedule, the Pac-12 today unveiled a 10-game Conference-only schedule (available below as well as on Pac-12.com) structured to maximize flexibility, including the following features:
Season to commence on September 26 (normally Week 4), with the flexibility if necessary to commence on a later date if the situation warrants; Each team will play five home and five road games; Games that are unable to be played on their scheduled date can be made up in their bye weeks or in Week 12 (December 12), with the Pac-12 Football Championship Game, presented by 76®, now slated for December 18 or 19; and The Pac-12 Football Championship Game, presented by 76®, will be held in a home-hosted model for 2020, with the Pac-12 and partners Allegiant Stadium and the Raiders, Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and MGM Resorts International agreeing to commence hosting of the Championship Game at Allegiant Stadium in 2021 for its two-year run in Las Vegas in order to ensure a successful launch of the inaugural event.

There isn't going to be a college football season this fall.
Which is fvcked.
But I don't see it happening.

OSU is scheduling in person classes with social distancing Set. 23. Things must be different now. old days there were classes of over 200. How do you social distance that many students? Maybe Reeser Stadium will become a new learning center.
It will be interesting to see what happens this year with no college sports and "student-athletes", especially football and basketball, actually have to attend class.

Exactly.
As is typical, it will be insurance companies and the lawyers that work for them that put the stake in the heart of cfb if the season is cancelled.
Risk mitigation - it's a thing.

Word from the NCAA backroom is that the actual larger threat to CFB isn't Covid. It's the collective bargaining power these kids are starting to wield. As of last year, they can now be paid for their likeliness (video games, jerseys etc). Now with Covid, the star players are getting together across different teams and making player demands. They've been having player Zoom calls and put out a short list of demands / statements. The NCAA and all AD's are terrified of this.
So...blame the cancelled season on Covid, prevent the players from making further demands; stop any further collective bargaining power in it's tracks and keep the status quo in place (money flowing into the right pockets...which isn't the players).
It's always all about money. Actual health concerns and player safety will always be secondary to money. This is the American way.
Chit, the city of Tuscaloosa Alabama stands to lose over $2 billion in lost revenues just from cancelling a single Bama football season. Whole towns, universities and sportsball programs are going to be wiped off the map because of this.

Just think about all the college players who graduated this year and had to miss almost their entire last season of baseball. Something they dreamed and worked for all their life and, poof. Gone. Sorry. Your dream is over. A friend of my son's had that happen this year.
Same goes for seniors who might miss their last year of college football or basketball. Something they worked their asses off for all their life and, poof. Gone.

Agreed.
This could have all been avoided, but ya know...tyranny, and hoaxes, and whatnot.
No Apple Cup. No WSU football for the first time in 75 years.
Imagine Mike Leach being stuck in Pullman for a year without football. The best call Coach Leach ever made was leaving town last year.
You can still watch Biden/Harris pounding Trump/Pence into the turf in November. It will be even better than watching Husky linebackers concussing Cougar quarterbacks in the Apple Cup.

I feel sorry for the kids as well but I think it was the right decision at this point. I’ll still miss watchIng college football this fall.
My thought is the other conferences (SEC, ACC and Big 12) might start their seasons but as soon as some players start testing positive they’ll be done as well. Over under is 3 games..... SF

NCAA has a massive, massive problem on their hands. This is going to get really ugly really quick if they don't step in and lay down the law. Either all P5's play or nobody plays - IMO.

If some of them play, and they will because of the money and politics, they will end up with dead players and fans and, most importantly, long-term chronically ill players. Libility will costs will make missing the season look like peanuts.

The Pac 12 is going to have to follow suit, or fold the fuckin tent up and blow away.
I think it's a bad idea, but that's never stopped us before.

Maybe you'll have your way and there will be no money in sports. Then you can afford to go to a game. Although I'm sure Mariner tickets will be pretty cheap.Especially after what the Giants did last night, and we looked terrible. I think there were 8 walks and 2 batters hit,and it was 9-3 SF.

Amen! Let's keep college football civilized and on Saturday's for all us ascot wearing, scotch drinking, and educated folks. Damn the NFL and all the hooligans who watch that wretched excuse for a football game!
I'll start by leading a Harvard Cheer for my fellow academia in my section:
Repel Them! Repel Them! Make Them Relinquish The Ball!
I believe that the colleges with "small" programs outnumber the Big Dogs, and manage to survive. And I do believe that football games are Fridays for HS, Saturdays for College, and Sundays for Pros. Basketball is a weekend (Fri-Sat), (Fri-Sun) exercise for colleges.

NFL games are now played on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Thursday.
So? Go back to Sundays. Give everybody a week tp recover/prepare. Just because you're doing something one way now doesn't mean it needs to continue that way.

The NFL make millions (billions?) more having their product on more than once a week. No way they would ever go back to just sundays.

There won't be a full B1G season with the way they set up the COVID rules. I.e. if 5% of a team tests positive, the entire team is shut down from competition and has to forfeit their next 3 games. All positive players are to quarantine for 21 days (instead of normal 14). No bye weeks in the schedule.
They can start playing football, but they won't finish a full season - IMO. I bet they don't make it 4 or 5 weeks with those rules.

Texas and Miami lost, so overall a good Saturday. Agreed, not much D this year and a bunch of turnovers. You have to think the lack of prep coming into the season plays a big part. SF
