First, being black has nothing to do with it, so why even bring it up other than to be a douchebag?

Second, the average lifetime earnings of the typical American is about $2.7 million. Add on pain and suffering, wrongful death et al. and payouts will possibly be in the tens of millions, but no more. There's a million past cases just like this that have already been settled. IMO - $3 billion is crazy talk and any judge worth their salt will have major issues with the asking amount. They'll settle down for $25 - 50 million is my guess. Pretty standard in these instances.

I think the father is going to have to make the case that, but for the CHOP barricades, etc., first responders would have actually been able to save his son's life. That's likely unprovable one way or the other, so the City will probably settle for a couple million or so to make the problem go away.
