I have one. It works really really well...if you can keep your hunting buddies from leaving the top open it will keep ice for 5 days

Like my Yeti's, one is 45 or 65ish other is 115 to 120ish, they keepshit cold for a long time, they're great to sit on or use as a table, hell you could put your caddi up on a couple of Yeti's instead of blocks, with added bonus being that they are certified Grizzly Bear Proof.

But....both are heavy and both look like they would hold more than they do.

Don't know about any of the knockoffs.

I have a Grizzly and like it but when we crab every summer in the heat my buddies Yeti holds the ice longer. For not that much more $$ I would get a Yeti next time.

I was in Utah and picked up a 77qt Lifetime for just under $100. Shipping is the cost that gets passed along to the customer.

My Coleman Extreme Bi-Mart special holds ice for 3-4 days in the Eastern Washington summer heat. I think the last one I bought I caught on sale for about $50 bucks for the largest model they sell.
Spend the difference on a nice bottle of Angels Envy and call it a day!

The only reason I have a Yeti Cooler is my dad gave it to me, he didn't think he needed anymore. Mom got mad at him, so he was obliged to buy another one.

That being said, it's the best cooler I've had, keeps food/drinks colder than my Igloo plastic boxes.

I've never compared in person the RTIC or other rotomold cooler, would like to kick the tires on those.

I have a Yeti, and it is excellent. To save money, and weight, on long float trips of a week or so, I upgrade my Igloo coolers by laying a layer of reflective insulation on top of the stuff I need to keep cool. The big trick to keep ice and things cool is to NOT open the cooler very often. Those buddies who stand over the cooler with the lid open asking everyone in camp if they need anything should be court martialed.

Buy one size bigger than you think you need or you will eventually own 2.

There are lots of online reviews for Yeti type coolers that cost less than Yeti's themselves. RTIC seems to get the next best rating.

Rotomolding is rotomolding - it's old and prevalent technology. Which is why there are so many cheaper Chinese knockoffs on the market all of a sudden. I think most of the cost of Yeti's comes down to branding, name recognition and increased costs due to stateside MFG IMO.

If anything, get the Yeti, so you can get the little sticker to slap on your rig like all the other cool kids. It'll look great next to your "Salt Life" sticker Arvid!

I have 2 stickers on my truck camper shell,an Owner perfection In Hooks sticker that is weathered. And a Resist Corporate Coffee sticker. I will not be placing a Yeti sticker on my vehicle. Salt Life. I did buy a STLHD hat just to be obnoxious.

I don't have any experience with Yeti coolers, mugs, etc. To me they're the product of brilliant marketing that convinced a lot of people to spend crazy money on super bulky and heavy coolers. To get the equivalent internal capacity of my 94-qt Igloo Marine (which has been great and has the snap on cushion top), I'd probably need a Yeti that weighs as much as a Volkswagen. I'm trying to keep weight out of my boat, not add it.

Lots of other much less expensive coolers work every bit as well. They rely on owners wanting the bragging rights to justify the price.

Even the lowly Colman extreme does just as well at holding ice. It doesn't dent the budget as much either.

You don't get the right to look down your nose at other cooler owners though.

There was only one time I needed better insulation in a cooler, a week long family float on the Grand Ronde in August, it was 113F that week.

Although there would have been no room in the drift boat, or the manpower to hoist a Yeti of equivalent capacity.

I bought an unused Cabelas roto molded cooler at Goodwill about ten years ago for $25, its still never been used.

I have a stack of coolers in the shop, most all hold ice well enough for the average adventure, even the cheapest.

Roto molded coolers excel at being a good casting platform in the bow of a flats boat, other than that they have a difficult time justifying the cost for typical cooler use.

I scored a deal on one. There are deals out there,I got a bit lucky there. For the price I can't turn it down,and it's white so there I have it I guess. I can set my Simms pack on top of it and gaze upon my edge rods as I drink a Perrier water .

Run the 72 qt. version of that one. Although I've fondled the Yeti's at various sales, it's been the solid reason there isn't any other cooler that size or larger hereabouts. Constantly gets used for Costco runs with just three small blue ice blocks and will keep two blocks of ice frozen for a couple weeks during alpine ungulate pursuits. 'Course at 9,500 feet above MSL in WY winter, it kept the contents from freezing. The tops of my ears were not so fortunate....

I have a 100 qt Igloo that I use for an ice reservoir.
It will hold (11) 7lb bags of ice.
I made a "follower" out of 5/8" closed cell sleeping pad foam that chases the ice down as it is used.
In this weather it holds ice over 7 days.

The wife bought a Canyon (roto-molded) mid-size...not a fan.

I have had no complaints with my Icy-Tech and RTIC coolers. Both keep things cold for long periods of time. They are heavy empty and it’s a 2-man job full when of vac-packed fish fillets. No regrets not getting a YETI at retail prices.

I need to upgrade my Igloo coolers. Threw out the marine cooler that had a crack in it and leaked. Still have my 54 qt fish cooler that has a hole in it but still holds water. I have a couple of cubes which have wheels for beverages and food.

I should have kept my dad's Coleman coolers.

I'll check around for a used cooler first and see if I can get a deal on a Yeti or knock off.

It's a judgment call for everyone to decide if a rotomolded cooler is worth your money or not, whether it be a Yeti or a knock off, and they are way too heavy to bring in drift boats, in my opinion...but to pretend that your cheap Igloo or Coleman cooler will keep stuff as cold and as frozen is a fantasy, the rotomolded stuff is both indestructible and works better by a factor of 10.

The cost and weight is why I have one big Yeti, that never leaves camp, and four big Igloos that go everywhere

Received an Igloo 128 as part of my fishing themed retirement package. It's the perfect cooler...if you're hosting a reception for 100 or more guests and you want to keep the beverages chilled. It's the perfect cooler if your wife doesn't have a hope chest and wants to store a half dozen quilts, some blankets, and a shoebox full of old love letters in it. Otherwise, you have to have a six foot wingspan to reach the handles on either side. It's too big to fit in my 14' Starcraft, and too big to fit in the cab of my truck. It probably seemed like a good idea back in the day when fisherfolks could catch three salmon and fifteen bottomfish apiece. Even then, it would take two guys with the strength of professional weightlifters to carry it from the boat to a truck. With just enough ice in it to keep it cool for a couple days, this ice chest would be a challenge for one person to lift. Wife and I have decided which ever one of us passes first gets the cooler as a casket. It will be a nice upgrade from a black plastic trashbag.

There is such a thing as too large a cooler.

Yeti's aren't worth the investment when there are 12 other company's out there with similar or superior products for less money.

I use two Canyon Coolers, a Prospector 103 qt and the Mule 30Qt with wheels. Both have every bit of ice retention as a Yeti at 1/3 less the cost.

I prefer the Canyons because they have tie down points for straps, and the mule because it has wheels for going back and forth to the boat.

Thanks guys for the input and suggestions,it's given me much food for thought. Providing I can rendezvous with this guy in Oregon I'm going for the Yeti at a discount. It's unlikely I would pay full retail for one. I have a fish cooler that's an igloo that works fine for hauling fish home from a trip. This one will be used for camping and my trips north when I am flying solo and want to keep my food cold and not swimming in water.

Just a plug for Engel coolers. I really like my 50, very well built. Price point was more appealing to me and they were reviewed very well.

Loaded up on ice on Thursday night.
Went to the Canyon over the weekend.
I emptied out the big Igloo when breaking camp, but recharged my 48 qt Rubbermaid cooler before I left the Canyon.
Just checked, there is still ice in my 48 qt Rubbermaid coooler.

The cheap coolers do work if you set them up right and maintain the set up.
The roto-molded coolers are more rugged no doubt there, I'm just not sold on any special magic that they are supposed to bring to the party.

Only time I found where a uber-hightek/$$$ cooler would be needed for what I do was back when I'd go to BC in the 90's and be away from an ice supply for multiple days. Before a big trip now we load up 2/3 160qt Igloo's with ice from Costco ($2/20# bag) and I threaten to wrap the knuckles with the wooden shampoo of whoever phucks with the ice coolers during the trip (generally my kid)!!

I do have a 45qt Cascade Mtn Tek that was given to me. Great boat/truck/food cooler, but overkill as mentioned multi tims prior. The Igloo's, if treated properly and kept stuffed with ice perform just fine for what we do (7 days at a time, adding ice on the 4th day). I can spend my cash on something way neater than a cooler..but used or free..that's a different story!

Shiticoolers.com makes some pretty cool stickers, etc that you can always throw on old coolers and truck windows.

We have a CANYON roto-molded cooler that would wear one of those well.

I'm concerned about the environment and these heavy duty coolers obviously have an enormous impact on the world's carbon footprint.

I know it all depends, but what's the best size for a roto? Seems like the sweet spot for most is 4 to 7 day trips. 50 qt range seems like it'd be about right.

Costco ice @ $2/#20 is pretty phukin' cheap! Loaded up (2) Igloo 165qt coolers today for deer camp. I remember buying these coolers at Costco for $49.99 in the late '90's and into mid-2000's. I have 3 or 4 of them still, and several 120qt size also. Ice is cheap, if you have the room for a couple ccoolers.

I bought a Yeti Hopper (Soft Sided) and the cost was unbearable! But I bought it because we run 2 charter trips a day in the summer on the Sound and needed the best portable cooler to store trays of frozen herring to last all day, and even when the temps were pushing 90, it did the job and the left overs were frosty-frozen-solid at the end of a 12 hour shift during the dog days of summer. It was a testament that led me to replace my shi1ty old cooler in front of my Whaler center console with a Yeti 35. Both were expensive, but they last forever and I don't regret the purchase! Yeti paved the way for many other companies to introduce quality produces but I can't speak to that, because I'm happy with what I bought.

I ended up scoring a RTIC 65 for like half price,used once. It seems solid,and it isn't some gay color,it's white. Now,will it warrant the extra price tag who knows,but the cooler I bought from Costco a few years ago crapped out. This one is certainly solid. I will give an ice review,I bet it holds ice as long and as short as any other cooler

My fridge died last week, the new fridge will be delivered on Monday. I put a couple coolers on the porch to keep stuff cold during the day, and from freezing at night.

The roto molded cooler didn't get used, too heavy to haul to from upstairs in the shop and onto the deck. The cheapies are working great.

The only way I was going to purchase a roto cooler was if I got a discount. I like the heaviness of it,won't slide around as much when I'm driving along the river bar .
