Hey y'all!
My motor pops into neutral when turning or hitting a small wake. Any ideas?
Of course all the shops said bring it in and they'd figure it out but would just as soon fix at 1 tenth the price.

Why do you have a neutral?????? My Etech, 150/105 Jet has NO neutral.

My 2nd jet boat had a Mercury 60/40 tiller motor. That motor had a neutral, trying to find the neutral position "was a pain in the ass".

"Someone told me that the neutral switch could be "by passed" but he couldn't do it. It took me a short time but I was able to do it, allow me to start in forward or in reverse......made my life easier!!!!!

My Merc 25 is really touchy about neutral. Supposed to be an issue with many Merc outboards.

It'd be "touchy for about 20', then there'd be no neutral.....

Won't start when not in neutral, that's how I find out what gear it's in.

Timber,
It's the plate on the lower part of your linkage.
There probably is a roller sleeve that fits into the groove on the plate and it is rolling over the peak of the groove too easy.
At least that's been my experience with what you are describing.

likely your problem our old merc was the same. if its on a sled just jump around the switch so you can start it in drive.

Just keeps you on your toes, nothing like full speed neutral drops on a sled I've literally face planted in the bow of my 24' before when it's happened
