Anyone do this? I've messed around with it a little with some results. I prefer swinging spoons, but if not doing that, I realized I'm more engaged and enjoy the direct hit from twitching vs. drift fishing a worm or bobber/worm, bobber/jig.

I've twitched jigs for springers in the Duc with steelhats around. Never have hooked a steelhat twitching a jig.

I've seen springers hooked while pitching pink worms on the Hoh. Does that count?

Probably depends on the size of the jig. The Duc jigs are big ol' squidly jigs and I honestly would be shocked if a steelhat picked it up. Ok, maybe not really shocked, as steelhats are stupid and it really wouldn't shock me too much. Actually, I'd be pissed. Thinking I just hooked in to a nice Duc springer only to see a damn steelhead on the end of the line.

Grrrr.

I've caught a few twitching, all summer runs. Depth, speed of current, and bottom structure is a limiting factor for getting and keeping your presentation in the zone for a fish to grab, there are alot more efficient means to do this than twitching, however, there are rare times when it works great.

I've seen tweakers twitching while I've caught steelhead.

Usually in the 206.

Better be careful how many times you say that or that B**tlejuice of the twitching game will get pulled into our realm on this post. He's long overdo for a good riling of the townsfolk.

I've never twitched. I've been researching it for a couple of months.
I need the gear. My supervisor is good at it and catches Kings, silvers, chum and a couple steelhead.

The prospects for this were much better when we had places we could fish winter steelhead in April and May, but I'm sure it's still possible.

No matter the species, fast-moving presentations work better in water that is warmer than what we usually fish for winter steelhead (or, at least that's been my experience). I recall a May day several years back where the water was in the upper 50s. Swung up a bunch that day. I'm sure a twitched jig (or cigarette butt) could have caught them....
