I've had my share of the big boy's toys and just can't afford to buy the fancy stuff at this point in life. I would love to find a rod similar to my old 7136 sage, but I need to buy it as a package with a reel and line too. It doesn't matter if it's an old back up rig or one that has been repaired (or needs to be repaired), just gotta' be inexpensive. Anything in the 13' to 14'6" in a 7-8wt range, euro or trad will work for me.

I think your best bet is to find good high end stuff used. Check around the forums. Look to some fly fishing forums. PM me if you are looking for suggestions but there are a bunch of used rods for sale right now. It isn't hard to find a used 7136 if that is what you really want. Should be able to scare one up for about 250. I'd skimp on the reel before I'd skimp on the rod.

Or you could buy a new CND Custom 1308 for about 300.
You won't be unhappy with that rod, till ya break the secons section.
Once it gets replaced, you are good to go.

Plenty of used Spey Rods out there, prices vary, but a rod and reel, high end used set up can usually be had for 350-450.
Often times they have only been grass casted, or fished less than 10 times.

Look at a CND though, nice rods they are.

CND Custom series is discontinued. I broke 4 of them and now upgraded to a Solstice. They do have the CND in the expert series in a 7/8 weight for about $300.

Some people like the TFO 13' at less than $300.

If you roll your own, Forecast makes a fun little 11' 6" 7 wt. You can build the kit for less than $150 at the fly shop in Monroe.

Salmo stole my thunder - I gotta agree on the CNDs and TFO 13'3" - a fine stick.

How was Alaska? And how do you like the 13' Solstice?
