Spent a little more time this last weekend truing my ballistic app with the 6.5-284. This is my attempt at my longest shot yet, 1105 yards.

Cold bore, first shot was high about 10" and right of center about 4". Made the adjustment and 2nd shot center punched the steel. Proceeded to make 3 of 5 hits with a 3-7 mph 9 o'clock wind, both misses were near perfect vertically but missed right edge of plate by 2-8" based on the vapor trails on the videos.

1105 yards 6.5-284 2nd shot

1105 yards 4th shot

May have to go full screen to see the vapor trails...

What MOA you getting at 100 yds with that load?

Around a 1/4" or you Robin Hooding at that point and center punching the same hole?

Technically speaking I've only shot one 3 shot group at 100 yards, it was measured at .285".

The biggest challenge I see in getting rifles dialed is the vertical dispersion at longer distances. Seems they struggle to be 1MOA or better. So example is at 1100 yards there's 11" of variable over a string of shots. From what I've seen I have about .3" vertical dispersion, that includes the most recent 5 shot group at 1100 yards.

If I uploaded all 5 videos of the shots you'd see next to no difference in the vertical dispersion on those shots. Pretty impressive given the factory rifle.

Leupold VX6 4.5-24x52. I've shot several of the top brands but I'll stick to leupold for price, durability and weight..

I wish the steel made a little more noise but in the 4th shot recording, if you listen through the end you hear the report from the bullet hitting the steel, takes a decent bit of time for that sound to report back.

Leupold scopes just flat get in done . I’ve never had one let me down. Not many of us really figure in the add on weight issue with glass, but Leupold almost always beat the competition in weight, and for those that lug the guns into the fields, or hump em across the ridges, that matters. Atho, some of the Trijicon offerings come close.

Nice shooing BTW

Nice Keith, thanks for sharing!

Just got 2 Leupold’s back from the factory. Totally gone through with full rebuilds, and zero cost. 3rd one was VERY old and parts not available so they offered up several comps. I inquired about an “upgrade” and for a little cash they moved me up a notch. I’m not really sure how many I actually have, but all my rifles wear them. The kid does have 1 Zeiss he bought when he was 11-12yo and it’s superb also.

Thanks!

Yeah a friend has a 5-30x Zeiss and its impressive as well. We shot late one eve, right up until dark and that Zeiss had a little more light at 24x over the Leupold of mine and at 30x it looked nearly the same as mine at 24x, just the better magnification. I would say for the money it's a tough scope to beat as well.

Keith

One time while pistol shooting we ran into some long range shooters up in Kalama country.
Was that you ?

2 guys and a woman.
They had a good spot shooting prone and cross-canyon at steel that they had left out.

I was up there at the invite of a friend's son who turned out to be quite the n00b.
We were shooting into a berm that was right behind the sniper's perch.
They drove around the "hump" and asked that we not sling lead in their direction.
