I grew up bait fishing the Snoqualmie, ten years ago switched to little homemade spoons and spinners. Now I'm getting into fly fishing. I fished it today, and can't remember the river so loaded with fish. Tried about 12-15 flies from dries, to wets, to streamers. Tried the surface, barely under the surface and on the bottom. Couldn't buy a strike. What are the best flies for cutts in the middle Snoqualmie? thanks

try any small egg pattern. cutts love to eat them. I have had a good luck this summer on the
lower Satsop River, fishing for searuns. I found
them in Olympia, at a fishing store called
Fishy Business........

I would suggest you get a copy of Fly Fishing for Coastal Cutthroat Trout by Les Johnson. The book is a treasure of information on fishing for Cutthroats in the salt and rivers. The book has several hundred flies that work in different environs. One of my favorite river flies is the Reverse Spider. Preston Singletary will be tying the Reverse Spider at Orvis in Bellevue this Saturday. He is a local expert on fishing cutts in local rivers. Preston will gladly share some of his formulas for success.
The book is available at local libraries. Most likely, you can have it signed by Les at Orvis on Saturday. Good luck, Steve

Thanks for the tips. Another question. There's an area of the Snoqualmie where the pilings are on the south side of the river. You can't get to this area from the south as it is high bank, blackberries, etc. I can wade down the middle of the river but still can't cast far enough to get to the cutts jumping and holding by the pilings. This is one of the most productive holding areas I know. Any suggestions of how to get to the fish. I even tried a spinning rod with a casting bubble which got the flies over the fish, but didn't know if the bubble would spook them or not.
