While running this morning I had a Blacktail buck cross the road. Antlers looked pretty good, but the tips were still clubbed so no idea the total number of points. But the main beams were already outside the ears. Have seen a big 3-pt around a couple years ago and this one looks like he'll be that or larger.

Yeah. The big one that hangs around our house shows up on game cams at night, if at all. Nice to know they are there, though.

Lay down and take a nap, that deer will walk right up to you. ^^^ this, and taking a dump in the woods counts too

My brother was sneaking up on a buck during archery season. He was angling in when it turned and took off. At that point a voice beside him, went, "That was a nice one, last time I leave my bow in camp". About 5 feet to away was a guy taking a dump.

Yesterday I ran past his brother. This one was 3 on one side as the end of the bean was forking and there was an eye guard. The left antler, though, was still a spike, about half the mass, and also shorter.

I have two on the wall that are pretty much just like that - only the single sides are tall and straight with eye guards coming off the back. Shot from the same stand, two years in a row. They obviously have the same genes. What's really cool is that their racks are mirrored, so when you put them together, they make for a very unique singular Euro mount with the 3's on the outside and the singles on the inside. I'll see if I can't dig up a picture. I don't know the odds on these dudes, but I'm pretty sure I could hunt the rest of my life and never come across something like it again.

First time I hunted down in Goldendale archery I had access to nice ground but was limited by the owner to antlerless. It was during the rut, and there seemed nothing dumber than a big buck. I called a wall-hanger 3x3 to about 10' and had a 4x4 that stood broadside at about 10 yds. But, the one that I called in and would have preferred to take had a "normal" small 3 on one side and a "faceguard" on the other. The antler came down along the face and then curved in front of it, with a point or two. I am sure that "everybody" has trophy typical bucks but probably nobody would have one like that. Genetics are interesting, for sure.
They have really used genetics and high mineral foods to make some grotesque Whitetails down south.

I find that blacktails around here have the most interesting and diverse genetics, so far as horns go...I just keep shooting nice typical ones, anyway, lol.
I did see a big mule deer up by Lake Cle Elum last weekend with a big velvet horn on one side, and a tiny little velvet knob on the other...it almost looked like it had been broken off already.
Fish on...
Todd
