Does anyone know the deal? They close the Nisqually for sport fishing (right when it was starting to pick up I might add), yet the Indians are still netting. Are they suppose to be netting, or are they just doing it? I know they net down there in parts of the river when they are not suppose to ( I have seen them do it). Does anyone have answers.

Saw the same thing. I guess (as usual) the rules don't apply to them. Is this right?? Really? They close a river because the escapement goal cant be met, but allow nets to be thrown all over the river. AUGGHHHH!!
I hope that was an illegal net I saw below the I5 bridge, if it wasn't, It really shows how one sided the game is. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE!!!
Pissed off

I am not sure if the Indians are suppossed to be netting or not.
The big issue is not the nets you are seeing, but the nets that you aren't.
Even when the majority of the tribe is not netting, there are nets in the river. Not all are tribal, but all are illegal.
Some are abandoned, most are only checked in the dark, but all are illegal.
I have lived in/near the valley for 13 years
and I have seen/known people that do this.

Report all netting activity when a river is closed. We must act now.

I called Frank Urebeck who is well connected with the state. The Tribe was having a meeting last night and should be shutting things down today. They claimed they had not meet yet because they did not have the people on the committee in town due to the Holidays.
I sure hope they pull their nets too!!!
Might allow a few more steelhead to spawn.

Headlines in the Daily "O" this morning that the tribe shut down the fishery yesterday.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff
