I used to always use PowerPro, and then someone tipped me off to FINS Windtamer several years back. I've been pretty impressed with it.

Tons of braids out there. Anyone have some other non PP favorites?

15 - 20 years ago I try many different braids....... major change was to stop using 15 and 20 pound, now only use 40 or 50 pound rated line. The lighter weight braids seemed to wrap around the tip, not a good thing.

Stayed with 2 colors....Hi Vis Yellow and Depth Hunter Multi color, works for float, casting, and spoon fishing.

Oh, brand Name Power Pro.....works for me!!!!!

As DW did I have used many different braids but ended still using 30 lb Power Pro. I say this with this little disclaimer, twice I have purchased spools of Power Pro that were defective. After using the line for a bit I would look at the line and it was separating around the core so in the trash. I have not hit that problem in the past couple of years.

I've tried more braided lines than I care to admit. Some of the best I've found are Fins XS, Daiwa J Braid x8, Sunline FX2 and Sunline Xplasma.

Won't waste my time with PowerPro...

Always been a Power Pro fan and love the super slick 8.

Denham, how do you like that Daiwa J Braid?

I thought Power Pro was just fine until I tried FINS - blows PP out of the water, in my opinion.

J braid is the best braid for the money that I have found. Super smooth and manages nicely however color fades pretty bad but I buy white anyways.

However if you like Windtamer then you probably would prefer a stiffer braid. You should try Fins XS since you like Windtamer so much. Its the same thing just way smoother since its an 8 carrier braid instead of 4.

J braid is pretty great for the money. I tried the Berkeley x9 stuff but it cut right through the bumper material I used.

I'm a cheap bastard though and find Hercules 8 stand on Amazon. 547 yards for $20... Has worked just fine for me so far.

I've been really happy with Suffix 832. I like it much more than Power Pro.

I still use Suffix on my level wind reels, just seems to be a good match.

Thanks. Gonna try a couple new kinds this fall, including J-braid, and see how I like them.

What are your thoughts on braid color for river fishing for twitching, spinners, spoons? I tend to use white braid with a long bumper.

I don't like braid for casting spinners.
I am okay with the swimming spoons behind the boat .

Color washes out of the stuff the more you use it.
