My partner & I are planning to drift the Kalama next weekend, if it doesnt blow out in the mean time. This is part of a 4 or 5 day trip.
I dont like to run new water (to me) without company, preferably someone who already knows the river.
Is there anyone going that way who wouldnt mind showing us the spots to avoid?
I thought we'd put in at Pritchard's and run to the take-out by the bridge,(dont know the name of it).
If you dont want to post a reply here, email me direct at frede@hctc.com.

If you have spent some time behind the sticks the Kalama should not be a hard river to drift. There is lots of good water to fish. You should do well on the Kalama. Look for me in a brown Koffler. I would be glad to help out in any way. I really like pulling divers with sand shrimp.

If I remember correctly, the only spot that is even at all worrisome is about 50 yards downstream from the put in at Prichard's. Otherwise, that's a pretty cake drift. You shouldn't have any worries, even that first bit of rapids is damn near nothin'.

Fish on...

Thanks, Guys;
'Bama, I'll look for you. We dont know what day we'll be there, or if we're going for sure. Partner wants to do the Cowlitz again, I want to do the Bogachiel, so we dont know where we're going.
From what I could see, the only thing that looks difficult is the chute below Pritchard's. Other than that, it looks like good fishing water.
Divers and shrimp is my favorite too.
Thanks.
