I was at Auburn Sports and Marine yesterday and handled a GL3 1263c. It seemed to be just the rod I was looking for a year ago when I couldn't find anything that long - 10 1/2 feet - that I was interested in. It is medium weight, fast action, rated for 6 to 12 lb line, about the same specs as an 1143 (?), but a foot longer. Would seem to be a pretty good float rod. Has anyone had experience with this rod? Any reviews you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tad

We have built a few this season.. both for centerpin reels and casting/spinning reels. yes, they are very similar to the 1143 but a foot longer... a wonderful float or big river drift rod.

Two thumbs up and a snap for the str1263c.I have been fishing this rod all season and I really dig it.Lots of power for it's line rating, and not to heavy to fish with all day.

I have a GL3 1263 also. Great float rod, and has plenty of stones to handle big fish. I have no problems fishing with this rod all day long. Try it, you'll like it.

Been using the GL2, 1265 for a couple of years and really like it, not so expensive. Can actually feel the fish mouthing the eggs before the float reacts! Little more backbone for setting the hook on finicky fish.

Good luck

Ditto ReiterRat on the 1263; This is my primary float rod, summer and winter. The length gives it forgiveness on jigs, but it has the backbone to turn just about any fish. I think its a little heavy for drift fishing where you have to put the screws to the fish on the hookset. For drifting, I use the 1143, also a two thumbs up.

Just one more reply for ya' Owned mine for over five years and it's a bad @ss rod. do everything with it, & it can handle anything! Landed everthing from 4" smolt to 50+ # King. It will get a little heavy fishing with all day but worth it considering it's versatility!

P.S. This year 4" smolt is the average, shaping up to be a pretty sad year for metalheads........everywhere.

I fish the allstar 1263 since I rep them, an excellent choice, you will love the legnth and the strength, and you sure can put the heat to them with that rod. the allstar 1263 though is much cheaper than the loomis, it is about 139 to 149 retail , same lifetime warranty and made of 43 million modulous graphite which is a higher modulous than the gl-3 . Good luck and you will like either one you buy, probably the most versitale of all the float rods, I drift with it too.

Personally, it makes a good float rod or a good mooching rod for AK kings, but for anything else it's TOOO big.
