Just using the Puyallup basin as an example.

Carbon river gets 30 days for salmon fishing with 12 of those days subtracted for the tribal netting closures. yet!!!!! they do not net up that high. WTF ! Looks and smells like Skokomish river relived?

every year i email the bio out here, Tara, when this BS comes out... the bulk majority of the hatchery coho return to Voights in October, closing it September 30th is BS..

they did the same thing last year, but then changed it to November 30th, which i hope they do it this year again as well...

everyone goes home by then anyways, and i have the river to myself for the most part...

What is WDFW intending to do with the thousands of surplus carcasses of excess returning fish? There seems to be a trend occurring.

Both these regulations seem very strange, and someone should have an answer. We do not have to like it, they need to explain it. Have you ever got a response that explained their position Evo?

WDFW wants all the carcasses they can get because they peddle them to the highest bidder.

I remembered my login here... dumb luck.

For the answers on the Puyallup system, see the WDFW link below and expand "What is the difference between the 2022 plan and the 2017 plan?"

Thank you for the link. Wow 2022-2027 Plan. Does that mean after September we will get to continue to fish/retain Salmon 7 days a week until the river closes end of November or December? Or is that the full season?

I don't know with certainty. Regs will be published soon enough.

At North of Falcon, Puyallup Coho was a constraining conservation concern this year. The regs after September for this year may, or may not, have any link to the agreement.

That webpage is intended to be limited to info about Chinook management but since those restrictions are within a side agreement (not the Chinook management plan) I am not jumping to conclusions. Also, the policy people at the department often don't personally edit the WDFW site so I keep in mind that there is opportunity for human error, or non policy people could omit some of the details.

Guess we will just have to wait and see when the regs come out. Thanks again Mike!

This is the states MO pretty much across the board these days:

(1) Incorrectly/underforecast the return.
(2) When harvest numbers are strong, submit emergency closure.
(3) Keep fishery closed during bulk of the run. Re-evaluate fishery and dertmine harvestable surplus still exists.
(4) Re-open fishing after the run has alread passed through to feign "opportunity". No one catches anything.
(5) Rinse. Repeat.

Just an FYI that PSA Gig Harbor has been involved in nutrient enhancement on the upper Puyallup River and tributaries utilizing both Chinook and Coho carcasses so that is where some of them go.

Well yes you could say that as it is true but not the manner you seem to imply. The agency opens the E&C contract for bids is true but the contract is for all surplus fish regardless of condition and number. Any funds generated by volunteer projects go to the project and state facilities goes to the RFEG's to be utilized in the volunteers efforts with salmon. The agency itself gets no benefit. Help ya?

MA 9 opens for 3 days this summer. Maybe more if the tribes agree. July 14th-16th. Just looked at the tides for that period. The worst minus tides and total exchanges to deal with for salmon fishing. If the tribes have to give us recs time on the water, might as well be the worst potential conditions available.

RUNnGUN-

According to the co-managers list of agreed to fisheries (LOAF) the MA 9 summer chinook season is open July 14 through 16, reopens again July 21 to 23 and again July 28 through August 15 with the season length depending on if or when the established quota is reached.

Those 3-day openers and the starting date of July 14th first day were the result of the recreational angler community requests.

To say it was a request is somewhat deceiving, the state started with not opening until August 1. The sporting community wanted days in July and I’m sure they would have liked it to be open more days with a more abundant quota.

This will most likely be like the Area 11 June opener, quota eliminated in three days.
