Just heard some real disturbing news after getting off the river today!! Today someone went into the Barnaby Slough rearing area on the Skagit broke into the fish trap and gaffed all the steelhead hens out of the trap and took them. What an arse!!!!! So much for reaching an escapment goal.

I have heard of similar incidents happening at the Fortson Rearing ponds. Talk about low lifes! Johhny, I'm sure that rumors of who is responsible will surface and you will help bring them to justice. Look for somebody with a sudden surplus of eggs.
I will ask the great spirits of the Skagit to find the person(s) responsible for this and even though it will not bring the fish back, due suffering will happen to them! Don't mess with the fish as bad Skagit Karma is often irreversible!

Well, what a shock...you guys don't suppose that one of the hundreds of game law abiding tar heel citizens of the area could have possibly done that, now do you? Good Lord.
After watching violations go on all around me and other anglers on a daily basis for years on the Skagit- with not a damn thing being done due to our patrol officers being handcuffed by the same office they work for (think of kicking an ant hill and successfully keeping track of all the ants), this type of behavior doesn't surprise me in the least. May those b***tards who took those precious fish burn in eternity.

That is unreal. It must be for the roe, huh? I think it is high time for the feds to ban the overseas shipment of roe totally. If the economics of the situation have got the low lifes cutting through cyclone to get to the booty and depleting our greatest resource, then it is high time for big changes.

Guys, people dumb enough to do this aren't smart enough to keep their mouths shut. Someone will talk, just hope the right person hears the ba$tards bragging about it. Greg

It seems that just about all the hatcheries now have their hatchery creeks fenced, or barb-wired. Same with the holding ponds.
I remember watching the fish from close up when I was a kid at the Tokul hatchery. Now you have to be ten feet from the trap and look through a chain link/barbed wired fence.
Lame.
But not nearly as lame as someone who would actually steal fish. I still wouldn't like it if they were starving or something, but I could at least understand it. But to do it to get the eggs? Come on. Keep doing that and you'll be standing on the side of the river with a hefty bag of bait and no fish to use it on.
Fish on...
Todd
