I'm concerned about western Washington hatcheries getting their quota of winter steelhead for future production. I've yet to hear a positive report for the coast/puget sound/SW Washington.

Anyone got the poop on current status? I fear emergency closures in some areas....it's happened before!

The WDFW contacted me recently and asked me to stop fishing the Snohomish system because I was putting such a serious dent in the hatchery fish population. Just kidding, I know that this is getting serious because we're running out of time for the rest of the brats to get into the hatcheries. That's the WDFW for you, TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE!

January 2nd there was 140 fish in the tokul creek hatchery. Rumor has it that 100 fish came in thursday night. Any body else here this rumor?
What is the quota for Tokul?

Keep it REEL!

I heard that just after xmas they had 47 fish at tokul. most of them were summer run. there must have been a push around that time, because I was told there are about 150 now.also their goal is around 300. According to the catch stats, tokul creek put out in winter of 98-99 137 in dec. 235 in jan. 127 in feb. it looks like the main run comes in jan. hope this helps.

Talking to a WDFW employee today, it sounds like the Bogachiel hatchery will have just about enough to take care of the needed egg take for the Quillayute plant, but there likely won't be enough to pass onto other streams as they usually do.

If what Rich G. reported was correct, sounds like most of the fish went into the Quillayute tribal nets. So in a few years we can all thank the Quillayutes for the poor brat runs that usually return to a few local forks small rivers. On tribal run hatcheries, the netting is stopped when it looks like it will be close for egg take.(Quinalt, Makah) I have seen it before. It happened this year on the makah rez. Netting was completely stopped on their river. It is too bad this can't be done for state run hatcheries. Not much else to say.--mike

How bout' Reiter? Have they reached quota yet? 150 fish in Tokul! Thats pittiful. Talk about finding a needle in a hay stack. Thats the problem with hatchery fish, there's hardly any of them and they all come up the same day. Things better turn around quick or were gonna run outa time for the hatchery run.

Almost all the winter fish I got and have seen have net scares on them. That should tell us what happened to the run.
