I heard there was some impassable logs below decker creek on the satsop, does anyone know if those are still there?

Thank you.

This was covered on a earlier post. If I remember, there were 3, some have been attacked with a chain saw.

I did hear that a jet boat and a drift boat sank "some where", on the Satsop, thats all I can tell you.

Floated last Wednesday. There's one spot shortly below decker you have to push the boat a little bit but it's not bad.

Then from satsop to west fork the slot is narrow, my cat was a tight squeeze.

New log jams have changed the river quite a bit.

Action was all up above middle fork and then within a mile of west fork takeout.

Part of the issue is in decker creek itself. The creek splits into 3 channels at the mouth, most people are staying in the bigger channel on river left, problem is that channel takes you down to a blind corner that has immediate wood and brush along the banks, hard to get thru and wasn't really rowable. 3 boats have gone down there this season, REALLY bad way to start the day.

Much more of the problem lies in that some people are out of pocket on their real level of experience and choose to float things that they should 1. Get out and look at closer or 2. Get out and walk.
Zero shame in either.

Exactly how I look at it, OTS. No shame at all in being safe. Lots of rivers where there isn’t an option other than taking an educated guess on the fly. With this year’s flows on the Satsop and other rivers, there’s typically an opportunity to check things out and proceed after planning it out, including walking the boat if need be.

Ended up doing westfork to the Chehalis today, water seemed a little low for up top. Fishing was spotty, My boat only got one jack silver.

Right before getting to the Chehalis there is a big log jam, you have to take the channel to the left then hug the right side of it and go under a tree, and it was just wide enough for my drift boat. It would be difficult to slide under the log if the flows were much higher.
