I've caught two of my biggest steelhead on tadpolys. Both over twenty, on an O.P. stream, of course. Green and red pirate in a deeper than normal spot. Fond memories - but will I ever get back there again?

Nope, Tug. I think we are losing our steelhead and "choice" salmon like Chinook and coho. May hang onto the pink and chum a while longer.

While my experience with the Tadpolly is globally recognized, please don't confuse my response as an Official Guideline or recommendation from Heddon.
Starting with 15 feet of line use the following equation: A = Current Speed of the Water measured in Knots over Ground B = Y Axis Degrees of Rod Holder with 0 degrees being water level C = Rod Length D = Number of Feet of Line from Rod Tip to Tadpolly Head E = Current Water Temp in Celsius F = Water Salinity measured in PPT G = Depth in Feet
G = (D-(C*(B/100)))*((A-1.3)*.71)-((E*.001)+(F*.0128))
Important things to note: 1. This formula will only work for a clatter tad. The bouancy of the rattle does impact the depth factor used. 2. Because there are no ISO Standards for Rod Weight, Action and Flexibility we are only able to support the accuracy of this based on the use with a Lamiglass 8' 6" 12-25lb (Fast Action Heavy Power - Kenai Special) 3. If G is a negative number this does not mean the tadpolly is in the air, it would indicate floating on the surface. Apart from casting and bird strikes it is very rare for these lures to achieve gravitational defiance.
I hope this helps those looking for more accurate fishing tactics.

So your saying the angle of the dangle is directly proportional to the heat of the meat while the mass of the A$$ remains constant?

Aww come on man !
Tadpolys still work, and work well !
Hop on board any one of the WDFW’s, or one of the tribe’s spring Steelhead floats for later timed returns of winter runs. You know the ones floating during the middle of the week, counting reds or broodstocking from Feb thru April. Try the Green, Puyallup, Skykomish, or the Nisqually .
Lotsa fish , although it may be catch and release, and be sure to check with the agencies for openings...

Now that MA 11 opens to boats fishing, and they give ya’ll a couple Bonus Pinks to catch cuz the runs are larger than forecast again, the question is -
Do Tadpollys work for Pinks in the salt ?

In a crude manner of speaking this does reflect a certain level of accuracy.

Do Tadpollys work for Pinks in the salt ? Doubt it. With the proper inputs you would see that the required trolling speed to produce the depth needed would likely not work well for pinks in the salt. Now when they enter the river that is a different story. These are great for targeting Silvers and Pinks that are mixed into schools together with certain colors producing less Pinks than others. I have found that if you are only wanting to target the kinder gentle fish the best color is below. Be warned that this pattern really is most effective on pinks that have begun to prepare for spawning. I believe it is due to how this particular pattern appeals to these transitioning fish.

I started to think wtf until i turned it over and saw that same bud plug lodged in its yap. Made sense at that point. I am not doubting the validity of your experience but I find it fairly hard to believe. Heddon only ran a limited production of that Color scheme and for the past 18 years I have been travelling the globe buying all of them that I can find. Apart from 2 other people, I am not aware of any others in existence. After weeks of negotiations I failed to find a reasonable valuation for the 2 that were being used by Dustin Chromers, and while Bob Ersblow simply refused to sell his 5, he did sign a first right of refusal and non-operational agreement with me for a private sum. So essentially unless Dustin lost one which is highly doubtful considering my offer, or Bob has breached contract I don't see how your story is accurate. If somehow Heddon gave me false production numbers and your story is true please shoot me a PM because that plug could be worth a small fortune if you are interested in selling it.

“ Doubt it. With the proper inputs you would see that the required trolling speed to produce the depth needed would likely not work well for pinks in the salt. “ Hmm, D’oh ! Must be a flat liner from the Straits , a rowing moocher w frozen cutplugs from the Clay Banks, maybe a lead ball & dropper B10 kinda guy eh ? Or just another hateful Anti - Down-Rigger /Skateboard puller from the same area ?

I am guessing this was targetted at SpoonFed because none of it applies to me.
I sold my off shore boat to fund my obsession for Bud Light Tad Pollys - So I can't be the Straitliner
Around 8 years ago just when homelessness started becoming cool I got assaulted while sleeping under the Anthony's Pier. I never go back to MA11 now. - So I can't be the Clay Banks guy.
After my last vasectomy failed, I vowed I would never use my balls anywhere near Astoria - So I can't be the B10 guy.
I think most people would describe me as a Honest and Inclusive Harvest Oriented Gamefisher. That being said I am not expressly admitting to any affiliation with HOG, however I do generally support their operations.
