I was just wondering...is this just strictly a salmon and steelhead forum or can we talk about sturgeon too? I didn't know if there are certain "rules" for topic discussion. Thank you in advance for your replies. -Wiggle wart <*))))><

Speaking of which, I saw about a 9-10 footer on the quillayute in october. Does anybody fish for em' on the coast? We actually tried to get him to eat a sardine but I think he was freaking out at the fact he got stuck there on low tide.

Thank you for your replies....I enjoy sturgeon fishing on the salmon/steelhead off season. It is nice to know that others enjoy it and are willing to talk about it. I fish the lower Columbia (from Bonneville dam, down river) and have been having some good success until the darn commercial nets went in. That kind of put a damper on the fishing. We fished the St. Helens area a few weeks ago and 4 trips ended up with limiting out the boat each time. One day we caught up to ten keepers between 43 and 55 inches. Saw one guy get a 75 inch oversize big boy. Caught the darn thing....pulled it in the boat...held it in the boat for about 5 minutes then proceeded to hold the fish BY THE GILLS and show it off to all the other boats before tossing it in backwards into the water from a standing position. Not very good releasing practices for our spawners. It made me sick to watch. Anyways..hope the smelt come in the Cowlitz soon before the darn thing closes!
