I am needing a new pair of waders. Should I get Breathable Waders or stick with Neoprene. I would like your thoughts before I decide. Thanks... Mike

I have been using Simms breathables for a while now and I love them. I wear them in hot and cold weather. You have to insulate accordingly in the cold weather. I use the Waterworks underwaderwear with fleece pants over them and it keeps me plenty warm. The breathables are also a lot more comfortable if you ask me.

I think the Breathables are way to go.
Layer according to season and you will be fine.
Simms are very nice but @ a hefty price.
I know there are lot of other good breathables out there for $200 and under.
Breathables are easier to clean and take on and off too.

I've always hated spending alot of money on waders. I wear some Cabelas 3 mil boot foots in the winter. I like boot foot chest boots because they are easy to get in and out of. In the summer most of the time I just wear hip boots. Easy to hike in.

Cabelas and Orvis had 2 mm waders and I loved them. Wore them year 'round and never experienced too cold of conditions. They quit making them, probably because of the breathable wader takeover. The 2 mm were light enough to allow plenty of movement freedom. Flytech now makes a 1 mm with some new fangled titanium lining to improve strength. I am waiting for the order to arrive. I suppose someday I will resort to breathables and then I'll be wondering how I got along with out them, just like all the other converts to breathables say now.

I own 5 or 6 pair of waders and seem to go through them fairly fast. My Flytech's were great but the feet started leaking after a couple hard weeks. In general, I like bootfoots if it is really cold, especially if I am in a boat. I like neoprenes if I am in cold water because they have insulation value and provide about 40% the floatation of a PFD. There are some truly great deals out there right now on some neoprenes. The goretex waders are my choice for warm weather. If the waders have a good guarantee, I buy from a local shop so I can get instant exchanges. Bean and Orvis are great in this regard. Hope this helps.

I have some neoprene boot waders and the boots cracked on me and are leaking. Am I SOL or does anyone know a fix that'll work for a few more trips.

Dan Bailey's breathables!!! No Question about it!! Check the track record, it puts the rest of them to shame!! FlyTech, Orvis and Cabelas all suck!! Dan Bailey's all the way!

Fish-finder, Buy the cheap stuff called shoe goo it will cure your leaky boots as well as the higher priced alternatives such as aqua seal its all good, had a shipwright friend of mine that patched up old extra tuffs with 5200 marine sealant and it stuck for years without leaking but you don't want to open a tube of that stuff unless you are doing a big job. If you have any of these tubes laying around just put it on heavy and let it dry. Good luck on your next waders which should be breathable for under 100US.

Thanks for the help, I was thinking about trying the shoe goo thing next. I tried hot glue the day after they started leaking and let's just say that didn't work very well. I wasn't sure if it would work but it was all I had in the house at the time. I was also debating on either 3.5mm stocking foot or breathables for my next pair. This post has definately helped me make my decision. Thanks all.
