Here is the setting: You're in your boat in a hogline or just anchored. A fish gets hooked that ya gotta go chase. Got the A-3 orange buey out on your anchor rope. Lets say you have 300 ft of anchor rope and only have 100 ft out, with 200 ft sitting in the boat.
Question: What is the best method to keep the 200 ft together so you can just toss it over and pick it up when you're done playing the fish?
History: I have tried keeping the extra in an old net with a float clipped on it with mixed results. Also have tried just tieing the extra up into a bundle.
What works for you guys? Hate to have 200 ft of rope streaming out away from the buey. Makes a mess picking it all up while trying to line back up into a hogline.
Any advice?
Thanks,
x

Mostly relates to big river anchoring such as the Col Rvr or Wil Rvr. Any ideas guys?

How about coiling up the extra line and tie the coils together with a couple of heavy plastic wire ties just below the bouy? That's what I do to shorten up my crab pot lines.

After I'm anchored up and every thing is good to go,I take the extra rope and wind it up.Then take the large sized tie wraps and wrap two or around the rope. Then when you have fish on just toss the rope over and the bouy will keep it floating right next to it.
It also helps to keep you in the same hole that you were in before chasing the big one.It works great for me on the Rogue and Columbia.Good luck,
