Sturgeon the smelt are in and very thick still, just got the word that they opened the cowlitz for wed, sat and sun. an article I read today said one guy got 80lbs. in just 3 dips, it's the best in recent history.

It is the best run I can recall in my 15-20 years of dipping. Saturday morning I had my first dip bend my net that I've been using since the beggining. It filled my 5 gallon bucket with 1/2 the fish spilling over. Then I had to dump 3/4 of the bucket back into the river. I won't soon forget it. My guess was 40+ pounds in one dip.

dcrzfitter The smelt will stay in the river for up to 2 weeks, I would guess that this weekend might be your last chance, I know there still there on my way home today I saw a guy taking pictures of them that's how thick they are.

It's such a huge run, maybe they'll keep coming in through the end of the month? They've been in for a week now and the Portland news was showing the Wednesday dip. It still looks like quick limits.
