why is there a point in hatcheries if you cant fish for the fish. our hatchery has a lot of kings and gets there quota every year but we arent even aloud to fish and just put them back. does anybody have a explanation?

I think they are trying to build up the runs, I also don't think they are getting as many as you believe. There is only a small fraction of what used to be and many of these are harvested by poachers. If you want to catch fall kings fish the samish. I'd much rather have a fishery that is completely closed while it is recovering than a catch and release where a number of people would actually be tossing the fish in the gunwells and what not.
