Lefty all the way across the board!! After the 300th cast on a cold day in the rain switching hands with your rod would get REEL old smile !! When your right handed, leftys are the only way to go when drift-fishing, so you can free spool at the end of your drift to keep your bait in the stikezone, but can set the spool and smoke em lightning fast laugh .

OK, I have tallied those that gave direct answers.

FISHNBRAD and Salmon Tackler, of all your reels, is your favorite reel a lefty or righty?

To get a larger sampling to make these stats more interesting, I posted a similar thread on Ifish. Those who voted twice (Jeffhead), are yall from Florida? rolleyes

I will post the results as soon as I get some clarification from a few of you that could not commit to one or the other! wink Take a stand and be counted!

Thanks for the replies, so far it looks very interesting.

Thomas

Cast with my right and retrieve with my left.
Browsing over the replies it looks like there are more leftys. Ever try to find left hand retrieve reels? It's not as easy is it? I've been trying to find a good salt water reel other than Penn and it's tough to find one that isn't 300.00 and holds enough line. It seems that most of the reels are right hand retrieve.

Here we go! Baitcasters right-hand, spinning reels left-hand. Moved all my fly reels to right-hand(they came set-up lefty) About the only thing I can do well left-handed is catch a frisbee behind my back in mid-air doing a 360,now go figure that out! confused

I cast with my right but do not feel comfortable holding my rod in my right hand.So I hold in left and reel with right.Even lately I have set up my spinning reels to retrieve with my right..It looks odd to switch hands but who gives a **** if your catching fish and feel comfortable that way..Its all in how it feels to the person..I have had a few people ask why and all I can say is I feel better with it..pretty tough to teach an old dog new tricks smile

Indeed, always reel with the opposite hand you cast with, it just makes sense.

Prefer to reel with my left-hand

Well if it is spinning gear, cast with the right, reel with the left hand. just do not switch hands to reel comfortably.
Bait casting, well i have both right and left.
Depends on what and when as to which one i use.
Small fish or small streams i use the left hand reel, big water or bigger fish, i have more control with my left thumb to spool or thumb drag and feel i can hold big fish better.
I am right handed, but do somethings backwards, use to be as a kid amidex'd, but as all older things, just start loosing the feel. wink

Gotta put my vote in for lefty all the way around.
Hey Bob, I figured you were a pretty good guy but you fish and Play (played?)Hockey! Oh, by the way you play hockey "left handed" because the top hand on the hockey stick is your control hand. A right handed person should actually play hockey left handed but a lot of kids starting out just learn it right handed because they are right handed at everything else so they think that's the way they should play.

cheers
