Thanks Rich. ... By most indications the summer steelhead runs region wide are going to be very good this year; as were the winter nate runs and other hatchery salmon runs. The mystery is still why the winter steelhead hatchery runs were so poor when all the other runs are so good with the improved ocean feed conditions the last couple years. confused

I'm not sure which Washington rivers have a June 1st opener for summer steelhead? In Oregon most rivers with summer steelhead runs are open for early ones. The Skamania strain in the Wiillamette tribs are making a good early showing right now. The coastal and eastern rivers come on a little later.

The SW Washington streams all tend to have openings in May because they have always had strong returns of native springer steelhead, but sadly those fish are gone. frown But because they are heavly planted in Skamania strains they can support May fisheries.

The NF Stilly is also open in May, for the bug rod only but she will not open up 'till June 1st due to the Puget Sound river closures. I am going to severely miss the Stilly next month!!

Everythng else except some of the very lower sections of rivers open up June 1. Some of the lower sections of the Skagit, Snohomish, etc. are open year-round.

I work in Redmond so I'm anxious for the Sno to open up.

Cannot wait for June 1!! Im debating whether to drive all the way to the Kalama/lewis for a springer trip.
After catching a few stockers from the lakes around here im ready to get into a summer run. =)
