I am looking into getting a Hewescraft Searunner 20' for fishing in the strait. I want looking for something versitle to fish for sea-runs, salmon, halibut, and even sturgeon in the columbia. Most of my fishing will be Port Angeles, Sekiu, and Neah Bay. Do any of you have one? Have you used it in similar water? Just looking for input on the boat if you have any.

Elkrun, I've not ran one in the water your talking about, but we run 220 Sea Runners at the lodge I work for in SE Alaska. It's a little longer at 21' 10" but a great boat for all around fishing. We fish for salmon, butt's and other bottom fish as well as run up a dozen of our nearby rivers, we run props so we do need to be careful. I think you're looking at a good boat for your needs, if you fishing swiftsure, you might want to consider a bigger boat than the 20'. just my 02 worth hope it helped.

Elkrun, I was looking for something similar. Bought a 20' Edwing (Chinook, WA) very solid, .250" thick bottom & sides (I think the Hewes is .190" bottom, .125" sides). The guy builds stuff for the commercials mainly but does his 20 footer for sporties. I set mine up as a center console w/hardtop, he'll do a conventional forward helm too. He usually has a couple of boats in the Boat Trader, his basic hull runs about $9,000 + motor + trailer, he'll option it out if what you want can be made out of aluminum & welded on. I did a dive ladder, railings, OB bracket, davit, tow bit, etc. Worth a look, call Edwin @ 360-777-8771, his shop is right at the mouth of the Columbia.
