Hi everyone, I just had my first fly lesson and I am totally hooked on the sport. Now I have a question for ya'll. What wadders would be best to have in this area that are "cheep"?? I found a pair for $69 but they say for warm weather fishing. Could I use these with gortex under them?? or should I go for a different pair?? Thanks, Rain-drop. smile

Hey Rain Drop,

Prepare to become addicted. I purchased a set of Cabelas DryPlus I think around $120ish. Good for summer-and in the winter just layer up underneath.
Oh ya, these are lightweights-dont ya know

Raindrop-
The waders that you are looking at are probally neoprene. And with them being $69 I would say they are Hodgemans. Good waders for the buck but most people are turning to the breathable style as they are much much more comfortable wear in the summer and with proper layering can be just as warm as neoprene in the winter.

I havent had any personel experience with the Hodgeman line of breathables but if you are looking for a good pair of waders at a cheap price I would look for the Dan Bailey Barebones. They are the stripped down version of their Lightweights. They arent a great wader and arent going to last you for many years but for $115 you can not beat them and if you do have any problems, Dan Bailey's is a small company and they will take very good care of you. Can not say the same about Hodgeman.

...and oh yeah, did you find a new fishing partner yet!??! laugh laugh

cool

My .02 worth:
It all depends on your budget, if you want to spend as little as possible, neoprene and a pair of cheap wading boots are the way to go, you should be able to get both for under $100. If you can afford it, breathables are awesome. I have a pair of Flytech's that are a low-end breathable, but have held up nicely for 1 year, and being able to layer for the weather is great. Glad to see there is another fly-buddy out there! When are we going fishing?

I paid about $200 for a pair of Fly Tech waders about a year ago, and they leaked. So I sent them back and it took 3 months for a replacement set to get to me. BOTH legs ot the new pair leaked on their first use. So now I will send them back and hope that I'll get a new pair by Christmas.
