The M's beat my team fair and square! No excuses. To those I wagered with I will pay up probably at flotilla3 if not sooner. So here is my question to all you die-hard, long time Mariners fans....no such thing of course. I'm sure it's going to come down to the Yankees and M's for the AL title. Since the M's have been the Yankees female dogs for awhile now INCLUDING this year how will they beat them in the playoffs? The M's had better get a quality LH starter before the trading deadline at the end of this month. Any ideas? Whoever wins between the Yanks and Mariners will win the World Series. I don't see anyone from the NL beating either of these teams. The Mariner's could also use another bat in the lineup possibly but after Sele and Garcia the rotation drops off a lot. Those teams who won't make it to the playoffs will be willing to off load some veteran lefty. Anyway now that the Dodger series is out of the way GO M'S Stew

Bandwagon jumper my A$$!!! I've been an M's fan since I was old enough to say Perconte. Jim Presley, Julio Cruz, Phil Bradley, the list goes on and on. I did learn the hard way a couple of years ago that this is not the team I grew up loving. Back in the day, when a buddy and I would take a taxi from my aunt's house(because we were too young to drive) to the dome, you could walk up to the ticket window twenty minutes before gametime and get 100 level seats(if mom gave me enough money, usually they were 300 level ). I tried it two years ago and ended up in the cheap seats, big time. Oh well, at Safeco ALL seats are good seats. As far as any changes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" Anyway, thanks for losing gracefully Stew, and get used to it. College football starts in 7 weeks!! :p

I'm telling you right now that the road to the World series runs through Yankee stadium! If the Marinners are for reall that's where their strongest challenge is. Forget the Indians or any of the others it's the World Champions will either be the Yankees or the Mariners. So it makes sense to have another lefty in the rotation. Oh by the way Jack Perconte.....former Dodger and so was other notables like Stan Javier

Yankees schmankees, stew. Not sure why a team has to make any adjustments. other than fine-tuning, when they take 63 wins into the break. Tell you what, if the M's and the Yanks square off in the playoffs, which they are almost certain to do, I'll take a piece of whatever action you're offering. We'll see how you feel about our starting rotation by then .

We arent all bandwagoners Mr. Stew. I remember the days of the great double play duo of Vizquel and Reynolds. When the most exciting hitter was Alvin Davis and Randy's first games as a M consisted of about 12 strikeouts and just as many walks. If I could go back farther then that I would but Im only 20. I remember the night when Brian Holmen came within 1 out of a perfect game against the A's and who had to come up and hit a homer to straight away centerfield??? Good 'ole Ken Phelps. I also remember coming home and switching on the tv right after Little League practice and seeing Griffey's wall climbing catch of Jesse Barfield's (I do believe he was at bat if I remember right) homerun that should of been. And one of the greatest moments in all of sports history that is rarely mentioned when Jr. and Sr. went back to back. It was amazing just to see a father and son take the same field on the same team but for them to hit back to back homers. WOW!! That is one thing that will never ever happen again. These are memories that are just as vivid and just as special as the '95 playoff run. The thousands of bandwagoners can not say the same thing. [ 07-09-2001: Message edited by: RPetzold ]

Hey guys, I`ve been a mariners fan for years, my wife since 95, (fair weather fan)** sorry honey,, but anyways, Stew is right, as much as i hate to say it, the dang Yankees are a different team come post season and the Mariners do really need just 1 more quality pitcher, maybe not so much a lefty as just one who can go deep in the game,,Maddux or kevin Brown would fit in nicely..

You're a class guy Stew No Bandjumper here either,I remember the days of Tom Pachorek(sp)he was all we had, remember Lenny Randle bowing the ball foul (not blowing the fowl Redneck) Back to the present....The M's are rolling along just fine,Al Martins coming along (finally) and Boonie is just out of his mind (please no one tell him he's my MVP canidate)because you know the Yankers will be doing everything they can to stack up with the M's. Gillick will make a deal and it will be a good one ,We do need a little help against lefty's in left field....Oh ya and I don't want Al Leiter.......Os BTW Stew does the Booze taste better when they don't tax it as much..... OH Ya almost forgot....Who will be filming the painting ceremony....will that be Dodger Blue or Mariner Blue [ 07-09-2001: Message edited by: Osprey ]

Hey Stew, just figured I would rub it in, some more :p :p :p You can pick up that blue paint at Lover's Connection. I hear it tastes like blueberry :p Then O's can have a hay-day with the camera. Yes, I'm a Mariners bandwagon jumper, but only because I moved out here, but I'm not too much of a baseball fan Something about a non-contact sport that takes away from the sport of it all Stew makes a good point. The "Yankers" are a clutch team. When it's clutch time, don't talk sh!t about a team that is nothing but "money": plain and simple Of course, if we had a bankroll like that....we might have 60+ wins Yankers and M's in the AL title race. I say Yankers win 'em all, but 1. Don't worry, I'm still rooting for da M's. I so tired of hearing about the damn yankers.

I've been a Yankee fan since I was a kid back in the 60's but I think you folks are missing something. The Red Sox are going to beat everyone. They are about even with the Yanks at the break but they've played most of the first half without their two best players. When Nomar and Pedro return, look out! The M's are doing great but they will probably have to face either the Yanks or the Red Sox in a five game series. In a short series, anything can happen. Pick the Sox over either the M's or the Y's.

Yeah I imagine the dodgers would be more than willing give trade 36 year old Kevin Brown and his 25 Gazillion dollar salary. They are going to have to go after someone like Bohanon from the Rockies. He has a huge ERA but who doesn't in Coors.Any talk about blue paint and my ass are incorrect! Now I would gladly piant Aingies perfect ass blue. Stew

I don't look for Nomar to be the beast base-hitter that he normally is when he returns. Next year, he'll be right back where he was. Who knows, with these mega sports stars and their rehab. programs??? Nomar probably has been taking batting practice 48 hours after surgery. Sorry, but Pedro is only one pitcher. 5 game series will only bring him around for the first game, and maybe the last game....maybe. Since he's injured, make that one game. Hideo will have to step up big. Big ERA in Coor's field? Who's this Mike Hampton guy and why is his ERA and win column so purdeeeeee?

Geez, stew, haven't you been told. Of course it's MY starting rotation (I just said "our" to make the other guys feel good!) It's MY Mariners. And MY Huskies. And MY Hawks (Who's this Paul Allen punk anyway?) And MY Ferrari Formula One Team And MY Sonics (Hey at least people KNEW we were going to be bad this year.) I've fallen off some wagons before, but I'm not one to jump ON a bandwagon. I'll let you know when I decide to pick up another team.........but it WON'T be the Dodgers.

Hey stew, although the road may travel through yankee stadium they are getting a little long toothed back there and this may cause some problems down the stretch for them.
You seem to have left Gil Meche out of the mix for the M's he will be back the second half of the season and that would give the M's three Q starters. Oh yeah, didn't one of their boys throw a no no in triple A last week? If Tomko gets his mental edge back they then have 4q starters. But all that said, I do believe the M's need to pick up an ace ( or have someone step up to that level) if they are to get to the series. I cannot remember the last time a team won the series without a true ace on the staff.
Oh yeah and bandwagon my butt, I was going to M's games, like backlash, back when you could walk up to the ticket counter at game time and get 100 level seats. Can you say Rupert Jones and Danny Meyers.

Yall!!!! Hamptons ERA is over 4.00!!!! Not bad for Coors but who in the hell would be dumb enough to want to pitch in that park? You are right about Pedro though, he is just one pitcher and the Sox are cursed anyway. M's and Yankees ALCS, Cubs and D'backs NLCS. World Series Yankees vs D'Backs-Yankess is 5!If the M's make it to the World Series then it's M's in 6!!! The Big Unit is NOT a big game pitcher and the Mariners will make him wish he stayed in Seattle! By the time the playoffs have rolled around his arm will be shot from pitching too many 130 pitch plus games.Darren Dreifort had season ending surgery on his elbow today so along with Andy Ashby being on the season long DL you can put a fork in the Dodgers.
