Heard today that there is a proposal out there to open the SolDuc for flyfishing only above the Klohyoa campground. Its been closed up there since the 1970's but now I heard its probable it will open possibly this winter. It will be C&R and the standard WDFW flyfishing rules will apply.

I would suppose so. Its been closed since about the time I was born so I never got the chance to fish it. I have heard from some old timers that it was real good. I know they count tuns of reds up there. Id have to say it would be good untill the first week of March then would slow way down.

Can't say that I share Greg's sentiments on this one. While the idea of creating more opportunity is good, I think in real life it's going to create problems.

First off, it's going to open more water for Brian, the local warden, to patrol at a time when he's already trying to be in too many places at once ... and poaching has proved to be a big problem in the waters already open above the hatchery.

Second off, I can see a lot of problems with the hazard of Snider Drop ... far worse water than what is currently open. Many of the flyguys like to use pontoon boats to get around ... in most instances, they WILL NOT handle the water just above the campground. I see disasters waiting to happen!

There are plenty of fish up that high in the first 2/3 of the season .. remember that the fish that have the farthest to go, generally come earlier in the run. A tip to boot smile
