Fishing Brethren,
Since there is no WA hunting board that comes close to class found on this board, I thought I'd ask you fellow outdoorsmen if any of you have any information on the YALE GMU 554 Special Elk Permit. My Father-in-Law and I got drawn this year (as a 3rd choice) and don't know much about the area or opportunities for success.

Thanks

Call the region 5 big game biologist, last name is Dobler, possibly Fred. He may be able to give you some info on private property that can be hunted (past damage claims). I don't have a number, but call the main office at 360-696-6211 and they can get you to him.

That is a lot of tags for only about 25 square miles of unit, so it will be combat hunting. Luckily you and the other guys will be using muzzleloaders. The use of muzzle loaders leads me to believe that the area has a lot of private property.

Take that info, plus a few days of scouting, and you will probably get pretty close. Someone else may know it a bit better. Ever thought of getting the AHE classes done? Lots of areas get opened up to you, and you still get to use your muzzle loaders

Hope this helps, Andy

that is pretty good hunt. I know the success rates are high and i have seen a lot elk in that area. My uncle and I got two out of there a few years ago. The landowners where we were have changed so i dont know any numbers. But do your scouting and you should get one.
