I drove by there the last two weekends and the area looks pretty wild and hilly. I didn't see what looked like a lot of private property, except for the areas directly next to the lake on the south shore of lake Quinault. There is a hillside that shoots up about 1000' from the lakeshore directly up to the top of the ridge road and it is pretty steep and fully timbered.

Your best bet is to talk to Jack Smith or Max Zahn, biologists for region six out of the WDFW Montesano office. 360-249-4628 will get you to their offices. Both of these guys were helpful in hooking me up with some landowners in the Southbank (now Chehalis valley unit) 066.

One other tag to think about next year is the 066 unit where there are now 50 tags, up from 10. Any tag can hunt it, and if you want, you may use a muzzleloader. It is all riverbottom farmland with plenty of good amush points. This same unit is also open only to AHE hunters during the regular season, so if you need assistance finding access there, let me know as I have access to over 1200 acres where over 250 elk spend the fall and winter. I have taken two elk in in three years from this unit and it is only about 8 miles from my house. Let me know.

Best of luck,

Andy

I can help you here Unit 064 is a very good tag to have, the whole area 638 is called the Quinalt Ridge and the 064 was the old Colnel Bob area that for many years only gave out 5 Bull tags. The first place to start is hit the Shake Mills around Lake Quin. and the ones in McCleary these guys can give info that you won't find anywhere in fact they might just put you on a large Bull. The area you'll be in is one rough mother with very few roads and lots of old timber, if you like to get way back in from the roads get a GPS that tall timber can turn you around fast also the Montesano office can give you some of the best maps of that area you'll get anywhere. There's huge amounts of public land to hunt on with a good population of Elk but as you know with Elk they're where you find them.

I am also drawn for the Quinault AHE unit, (for the second time). I have also been involved in 7 other kills on this hunt over the years.

This is also my families general season area.

If you need some info feel free to email me at riverswild@hotmail.com
