Help, Im trying to figure out how to cure those prawns, and where to get the prawns to cure for the big white.

I took a pontoon boat down there the other day and some guy was nice enough to give me a handful of his prawns, they worked good.

when i ran out i tried to cure my own. I bought some "bait shrimp" from the safeway in hood river and some redd hott egg cure, some cherry coolaid, and some red food coloring, mixed up a concauction and diddnt catch jack.

Just wondering if anybody would be willing to give me a word of advice.

Thanks

Those prawns are specially made by the locals. God knows what they mix 'em with-beer, gasoline, formaldahyde, kitty p***...who knows? laugh It's definitly a secret and no ones tellin, I guarantee it. Consider yourself lucky to get a batch of them from the guy. eek

All that I can say is that the cure is less important than the freshness, and size of the shrimp. Go small, and fresh........

I use fresh uncooked prawns and cut them into small portions (SMALL!) and use procure or beaumacks on them and thats it. seems to work.

Depth is the biggest key to catching lots of fish at Big White. If you r bait is not in the strike zone, forget it. Once in the strike zone, the fish do seem to hit better on prawns/bait shrimp, etc. They also tend to hit better one one scent vs another. Try a little shrimp/garlic/anise/crawfish on your bait. How you color it is your choice but I have found that getting your bait a dark redish purple works best for me. Don't be afraid to adjust your depth until the fish start hitting.

This is not a well kept secret. But when a man gives his word not to tell ,then that's what he has to do. Everyone knows most of the cure ,there just missing one small but very important ingredient. The best I can do. Duck In The Fog.

When i bought the food coloring at the thriftway in white salmon the butcher told me that the reason people dye the prawns red is because it simulates a molting crayfish.

and said that any raw prawn would work, but where do people get those little tiny prawns, those seem to work well.

thanks for the advice guys.
