How do you fish for salmon in the south sound without downriggers? I really don't care for mooching much because I don't eat dogs and don't like losing gear.

Any help would be appreciated.

To avoid the dogs fish the Lyle Pt./Green Can with jigs. 2 1/4 ounce in white, white/pink/white/green work well there.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff laugh laugh

Here's something I've been using in Area 9 that works well for both silvers and kings... wish I could keep the latter, but... I've been using a Dipsey Diver in size 0 in metallic red followed by a Coyote spoon. That's it. Let out line using pulls so you can replicate the pattern that works. The diver swims from side to side, so the metallic red provides some flash, and the Coyote does the rest. Even dogfish will hit this combo, so you know it has to look like bait.

I'll say that I don't like trolling much and prefer to mooch, but this has been working really well, both here and at Neah Bay where just about everything works, I realize. In this area, the Coyote has pretty much replaced herring for the silver fishermen who normally used herring.

For silvers, I usually put out 20 or fewer pulls, and if I'm bored, I'll go down to 30 or more and catch a king. Good luck, and if you try this, report back.
