Looking to the board for innovative, clever and most of all, cheap and simple methods of packing and stowing your 10'6 rods. In the suv's they are not a problem but in my trucks it is a different story. Dogs in back means the rods have to ride up front. I know, leave the dogs at home. For the most part I do just that but occasionally I like to take my furry buddies fishin and these rods don't fit in gun racks. So what do you boyz do instead? Info is always apprieciated.

I don't have the web address but this company makes a carrier called a Rod Safe.
It will lock your rod and reel in a metal box that fits on top of any car or truck roof carrier.

Try packing a 15 footer around....what a pain! Probably a cloth rod sock and lean them from the floor against the seat.

200psi PVC pipe, the white thinwalled stuff... go to your local hardware store with $10 and you'll come home with enough for a couple of rods... glue a cap on one end, if you want to get fancy, get one of those screw in "cleanout" plugs for the other end.

I hear ya areo, jeep makes some beautiful and small carriers too but thier spendy.
Hey Jigman, I thought I'd start with the small stuff first and then move on to the three and four piecers. eek
And Stormin, I don't want to sound picky but I don't want to remove my reel and then reinstall at streambank and HEY, CONGRADULATIONS ON THE CURE PICK-I like it.
Thanks and keep them ideas comin. Not one of us knows more than ALL of us. eggy laugh

If you have a canopy on the bed of your truck buy the berkly rod holder that goes in a boat and glue them in side of your canopy to the top with marine epoxy. They should be safe with the dogs in the back.the bed of my truck is 6 ft.3 in.my 10 ft. 6 in. rods fit no problem but my 11 ft. 4in. I have to put kitty corner.

There is a company called Harding that makes a great rod/reel holder for baitcasters or spin gear.It is a PVC tube that is covered with soft cloth inside and a heavy Cordura type material on the outside. It zippers up over the reel when in use. They are pretty neat cause you can leave the rod all rigged up then stowe it.Your dogs could stomp all over it and not hurt a thing.

What I've done was to mount an old ski rack that I picked up for practically nothing at a garbage sale and mounted it on the cab of my truck. From there I let my imagination figure what I wanted and best apply to it. Works great and can store up to eight rods if needed. smile And when I river fish moving from slot to slot, I don't have to break the rod down, just gotta watch out for those low lying branches.

Here's an idea that has worked really well that my pa came up with. Do like stormin said and get yourself of pvc pipe (I think the stuff I used for my drift rod is 2 1/2 or 3 inch. Glue yourself a cap on one and like was said but NOT on the other end. Instead take a dremel grinder and cut about a slot just wide enough for the rod to slide in between the rod handle and the reel seat. Once you cut the slot in far enough so the butt of the rod is in past the end of the tube, widen the slot so the reel drops into the tube if you can picture what I mean. This way all you have to do is take the rod apart and not take the real off. Another option; DB Dunn makes a padded rod case for spey rods that might work. Not sure on this one as I haven't tried it but it should work. Hope this helps.
