For those unaware of what the Floatillas have been about, Floatilla I on the Satsop and Floatilla II on the S. Santiam have been comprised of many boat loads of regulars on this and the ifish BBs floating and fishing in groups - with a decided Washington vs Oregon flare. All in fun though. We are putting together F III, targeting either the Cowlitz or NF Lewis or Satsop on Oct 6th. Read about it and put in your 2 cents worth on the ifish BB ( http://www.ifish.net - Discussion Board). With these rivers crammed with silvers it is going to be a 'slaughter' of 6 fish limits per person. There will be a social of pizza and brew after the floating/fishing. Fun! Check it out.

I'm in RT. I'd prefer the 6th on the Chehalis/Satsop, so we can include sleds, driftboats and cats. This is what's waiting on the Satsop and Chehalis:

Actually the lewis would be the place. I'll go anywhere but the lewis is so full of silvers right now, it just makes a guy quiver... Anyhow, in the last 4 trips we've boated almost 50 fish. ITS UNREAL! So, you guys make the call but sleds, driftboats, or cats all are welcome. This river can take all and will come up to 3000 cfs after this weekend. You don't understand when it comes up, slaughter house doesn't even explain it!!!!!!!!

I'll be there. I should have at least 1 open seat if anyone needs a boat ride. I think I'll let Osprey and 'Yall put in ahead of us this time. It was a little embarrasing having 3 fish before that Waterworld contraption they were on even hit the water, on Flotilla II. \:D If you guys are bringing "that thing" again, I would recommend downriggers as high as "that thing" is. ;\)

RT,

Sort of a sad response so far. What's it gonna take to get these boys excited??? Any river will do for me!

That's quite a ways to drag the Oryguners, RICH. We're pretty well set on the 6th on the Sop/Chehalis, with the Cow or Lewis as backup in case of no water in the Satsop.

Anyone planning on coming and schooling the Orygunners should say so so that guys needing rides will know who to shake down for a seat. Should be a lot of fun, and RT said he might even roll down a hill for us!

Just needed an excuse to schedule a run up to Washington now I have one. Prefer the Cowlitz or the Lewis as I run a 20' customweld and would not be comfortable on the Satsop. Anyway it goes I will need lots of advice on any of these rivers on catching fish. I'm in

Nice silver Dan! That's what weeeees after bro!!! If I catch 6 of those oversized hooksnosers I will be glad to roll down a hill for ya. \:D ...

Keith, there is a lot of interest for F III. But it's mostly expressed on the ifish BB thread. There's 2 pages and over 40 posts about it there. One thing different about these 2 best fishing BBs in the northwest is that the ifish one seems to be much more interactive, while this one has more freedom of expression ;\) . There will be lots of boats of fishin teams. I will also match Paul's (Willierower) $25 gift certificate, his for Kalama River Bait & Tackle and mine for STS products. How about you putting in a bottle or two of your new ultimate egg cure as a prize, Keith? The thing is, we don't know yet whether that would be for first place or the consolation prize. \:D ... Nah, just kidding. I've heard Jame's and your cure is great. Any other prize donators? We can have, say, the top 3 or 4 teams for total number of fish landed get appropriate prizes? And a prize for biggest fish (that will be me ;\) )! No bets or cash - that's illegal. I normally don't like salmon or steelhead derbies because it promotes catch and bonk - but this is an exception, with so many silvers that the WDFW wants lots of these brats harvested. Yeeehaaaaw, let's get it on! Look out Dan, 'Fly, Keith, James, Os, Jeff, Timberman, Scotty, Jerry, Kid Sauk, Parker, Redneck, or anybody from WA (as in WAAAAAH) - I AM PUMPED! I am going to kick your cocky Washington @$$&$ right out of the water. \:D :P ... partly because I'm pissed the Beavs had their heads torn off and their necks crapped down tonight (you were right Danno - SI is lame, and so were the Beavers, especially the O-line; now they have to win every fricken game the rest of this season or tuck tail and hide). .....

EDIT: Oh crap, stupid - I just put pressure on myself in a river I'm not dialed into ;), and I haven't fished competitively hard in a few years. ... Oh well, all in fun. (But I am going to kick your sorry butts! \:\) ) - Steve (RT)

Hey Steve,

I figured you'd be out pi$$ing fire after that game last night. FSU is the real deal and OSU thought it would be cake. It almost happened to OSU last year against EWU in their opener, and FSU is no EWU. Now, you gotta hope that game was the kick in the pansts they needed, and send them to a 10-2 season (they still have to play UW :D) and a bowl win.

Guys with sleds: Keep in mind that we are doing a Satsop/Chehalis gig. The Satsop will likely be to small for sleds then, but the Chehalis is a good-sized river, with many guys running props in the lower stretches around Cosmopolis. That gives you MANY options for techniques, too. Everything from trolling herring, plugs, and spinners to sidedrifting bait and floating jigs..........you will be able to use your favorite salmon techs. someplace on this system.

I figured that would keep the Orygunners from gweebing too much about the home-river advantage. \:D Besides, I'm bringin' the Redneck, so that puts me even with just about anyone!

RT,
Great point, looks like we'll have to throw in 5 bottles of the new Ultimate Egg Cure. This will make for a great prize. What day will we have it and where? I'd love to go to any river, but like I mentioned when they raise the lewis it will be a season never forgotten!! \:D James and I, and the rest of the WA team do plan to hand you a spankin even worse than your Beavers got, and them almighty lucky Ducks almost received also. ;\)

Ya, maybe Dan. But after watching OSU's high school caliber offensive line seive I don't expect much from them now - they lost too many good players, including those receivers and fearsome defenders. ...

Keith, thanks for the offer of your new "Ultimate Egg Cure" for another F III prize. Cool - we'll add it to the list. Reports are off great effectiveness with it. ...

The first F III option will be the Satsop River on Oct. 6th. If it's not happening there we will do the Cow or NF. We know you and James are drooling to get us guys on your home court advantage NF \:D , but Spooled, Ryan, and I were the hot boat in the meathole this morning, and also on down the river today. You are right about that river, they aren't hammering the pink worm or even custom Warts & Vibraxes. They ONLY wanted good eggs - which we had plenty of fortunately. What's wrong with those NF fish? Do the hatchery employees harass them as smolts with scary big worms and Warts, or what? Had a real nice multi fish day today though. Fun! And a peaceful drift. ... BTW, the only one I will let spank me is your sister - and then I will take her fishing afterward ;\)

I would enjoy going. Any of the rivers within 80 miles or so would be fine for me. That is opening day of muzzleloader deer, but I can always hunt another day. If it is the Chehalis, I can make it down myself, with one other. Any other river, and I would be forced to, yeah forced, to head out with someone else. It would be an opportunity for some of you experience river fishermen to"learn me" a thing or two.

Count me in. I have about 3 pounds of fresh silver eggs that I just finished curing. Love to give them a try.

RT,

Congrats on those lewis fish. They are odd though, they aren't too active about hardware. How many fish were hooked in the meathole? Did you see the 18' blue koffler, that was my padre and a co-worker of mine. He's been begging to get some of the Ultimate Egg Cure also but I'm holding out on him for other reasons. Ya know, the competition thing.
Easy about the spankings with the sister, she's a tough girl and would probably hurt ya. She don't like the fish thing much, she's more of a horse nut. Got a rope!!!
Well, the satsop would be cool. I've never fished it before and would be abliged to come up and put on a clinic. hehehe ;\)

Gonna have to try and make this one as long as I am back from Deer hunting by then. Always wanted to fish the Satsop, since reading an article in STS years ago about ht huge silvers in that river. What kind of drift is it? I am still a rookie on the sticks \:\) or I could bum a ride I guess.

Yeah, the satsop the home of the 20+ lb silvers. I'd love that! I want to go right now. How's the chinook fishing on that river at that time? Do they tipically hold in the deeper pools? I can't wait.

Should be kings and silvers, and maybe a smattering of early chum. EASY water, no problem for a novice. Good mix of structured water and deep holes, with my best success coming using hardware, although the kings sometimes prefer eggs. The holding water will depend on the flows......hopefully there's enough water to spread the fish out. If we get a good rain a few days before...LOOK OUT. Even the Orygunners will catch fish then!

Dan S,
How deep are the holes on the satsop? What's the deepest? Are all the fish wild or are they hatchery bound? For both the satsop and chehalis? Are there any holes like the meathole on the lewis where all the fish come to and stack up? Chum's now there's another fun game... What's the biggest silver you've taken on these rivers.

Keith,

The deeper holes are 10-12 ft., and that's where you'll find most of the Kings. The silvers are a mix of hatchery and wild fish, but the hatchery fish are hefty fish too. My personal biggest from the Satsop is 22 lbs. and change. The record is 26-something and I wouldn't be surprised to see that record broken this year.

Hope to see you and James there, hopefully you'll enjoy oufishing the Orygunners as much as Os and I did. \:D

Hey Keith, there were so many boats crammed in there Monday morning that Spooled had to park his trailer way the heck up the road. Ask your padre about a Willie driftboat without a motor that was tied up to the overhanging branch and hooking silvers backbouncing the seam. Fun for awhile, but I'm not real high on fishing in a used boat parking lot  , so we took off for the drift. And there were lots of bright silvers all the way down to the Island takeout, and likely below that. Will be all season. Cow, 'Sop, and others too! I will giving away some excess filets as usual, but where am I gonna fit all the excess eggs this fall (besides down salmon throats)? I will make room somehow \:D .

OK whats the ground rules. Silvers only? No more than 2 adult silvers. Looks like we can "Kuner" one chinook. We lookin at overall poundage? Big fish? Wierdest lure? Style? As an old time resident of the Grays Harbor Gooose is in on this and lacking a drift boat, cat, sled or a seat in someones elses boat may demonstrate the use of an truck tire inner tube and swim fins. Is there a limit on where we can fish the Chehalis? Can I fish in the estuaries around the mouths of Elk and Johns Rivers(Area 2-2 East) where I can "Kuner" two chinook?

Too bad you guys don't do a banktilla. Does the Satsop have any good areas to bankfish? I havn't tried any of the Grays Harbor area rivers yet but they're pretty close. Dan S is so lucky to live so close to those rivers. I went to the Killcene last Wednesday evening hooked (in the mouth) and lost a big silver drifting orange yarn and a hook. Saw the Cougs get revenge on the Vandals Thursday. Also went to Portland for my wifes family reunion last weekend and watched Oregon win one for the Pac Ten. Went west of Beaver territory with her dad on Sunday/Monday morning and we each got two summer steelies. Watched part of the Beaver thrashing by Fresno State (I think Fresno State replaces OSU as cinderella this year). Erickson will have his team ready next game. The traffic stall at Castle Rock Monday was a pain in the ass. Got to do some domestic chores before I can get another kitchen pass. Can't wait to see the Huskies lose to Michigan and then Miami. Why do Cougars hate Huskies and Beavers hate Ducks and vice versa?

Don't worry RT, Papa Beaver Dennis will alleviate some of the overcrowding in the SO. Cal jail facilities and have the Beavs in prime form for next year!! JC transfers my butt!!! jk. Looks like we'll have to put together a few one man rubber ducks from the local area and clean up in a "sportsmanlike manner" jigs, flies etc... Just don't run over our poor little boats with them cold, impersonal metal rigs from down south. I'm gonna hide behind Os's big old cat (unless he's wearing sumthin' purple) Do I get odds on the Palouse game?! It'll be like us flyguys trying to keep up with you wormdunkers, spoonheads, and rattletowers!!! By the way, what does a Beaver Say? Eat Me?
By the way RT, on Sept. 24 I'll not only be a Coug alum, I'll be a fighting Geoduck (Evergreen State College in Oly). Well, at least I'm already used to sporting mediocrity, why change now. Told the wife I was going to try out for the 'hoop team as long as they played half-court and I could cherry pick all game. At first I was bummed about actually having a set schedule with two years of master's program looming. I wasn't too happy about the prospect of becoming another weekend warrior. However, I've got to cross the 'Sop every day on the way to school!!!!

C&D, rubber ducky? \:D Hey, whatever works is cool! Just remember, this ain't 'armchair' football - this will seperate the men from the boys! Or in case of the guys that can't get a kitchen pass - this would then separate the men from their toys. \:D ... And Steel', no reason bankies can't show up. Bring your catch to the Hwy. 12 takeout in the late afternoon; then join the after fishing party - wherever the Waaaaasie's decide it should be. ;\) ... And how far down the Chehalis do some of you guys want to go? At least stay out of Gray's Harbor or any other saltwater! \:\)

NOTE: F III is not a derby or fishing contest, for which we would have to apply to the WDFW for a permit. This is a fun social event. There is no law against bragging rights or even some gifts of appreciation and brotherhood. ;\)

Rags and FM Mark, if F III gets switched to the Cow or NF the sleds are definitely the way to go, both to cover more water quicker and also to have more fishers along. If the 'Sop gets the rain it should by then, it's a tough decision. The driftboat runs have the nicer defined holes, which could also have more fish in them if the fish are on a quick move. However, the lower mile or two of holes on the Satsop R. are sled accessable and is commonly done, and they are good holes (the "Fishing The West" TV show filmed on the Satsop was in a sled with a guide). You also can fish sleds off the mouth out in the big Chehalis R. and do very well on the silvers headed both for the 'Sop and on up the Chehalis. And again, sleds carry more fishers/rods. If you have a 3 person team I would make the decision based on the latest fishing reports that week before the 6th. FM, you should get Stew and another good fisher or two and get after this thing with us. Fun! ... And all these rivers can be effectively bankfished too, for those that aren't hooked up to a boat ride - and can meet at the take out with the boaters. LOTS of great fish! Gonna be fun regardless!

Don`t suppose anybody has an open seat anywhere do they?
I personally don`t drink (except for a rare cocktail) but don`t give a dang if or how much someone else does.
I have enough other vises.. ;\)
I just never aquired a taste for it.
More than willing to chip in for whatever though, I`ll even buy the beer.

Hey RT. If your gonna ride in my boat, don't get that Timber Man too wound up!! That sum***** sounds like he'll cut our "Cadillac" in half with a chain saw and we'll be bankies on the Flotilla. If ya gotta kill someone on our boat Timber Man, kill Bernie, we'll help. RT, stick to spinning up DAWGS we can handle like Yall and Osprey. Them two dogs got no teeth. Nice guys though. \:D

I have a trip to tp the Fraser river sometime in October...can't remember the exact dates yet, but if they aren't on the day of the "Great Flotilla III" count me in also. Just let us all know the logistics, it would be great to meet some of you in person.

I think the biggest threats to Floatilla III will be Osprey and Dan S. since they are well versed in Satsop salmon fishing. I think the second most dangerous team will be mine......Team Vision, baby!!!!

All right all you guys from washington looks like we are going to have to put on our "extra tall" chest waders with all these people from Oregon going to be on the river. You can see how deep the bull $hit is all ready, and "Slaughter on the Satsop" is still a month away. I may have a seat open, won't know until the last moment. Its my busy time of year and have to see how things go.

Troy, Troy, Troy, sounds like your rowing with one ore again. Timberman is no threat to the "Spooled Jewel" and the Dream Team from "Oregon". Worshinggggtunians can't even find the rivers none the less fish in there own back yard.

With Troy, RT and Bernie behind the Rods those fish will be so sore lipped that them boys, and I mean boys, won't have a chance I say, chance to hook a fishy.

By the way RT this is "Catch And Eat" if you have'nt figured it out already \:D I will stay out of your kitchen on this thread so that team spirit will grow and nurture. Don't forget, wipe your feet. ;\)

Troy, Work out a little before we head up there. I don't want any week in the knee NB for a captian on the "Spool a matic fish processor" boat. \:D \:D \:D

Okay Oregon boys, I totally forgot that there are other heavy hitters going too such as Drift Boat and Fishhead 5. These boys also know the river well and are good fishermen in general. I will add to the list with Steelheader69 who is pretty damn good too. I think that team Vision may split up into two boats as I am going to offer a seat to the famous Hey_yall aka "the Redneck". I think that Superfly will probably have to bring his woman since he's whipped, uh, I mean committed. \:D

With the venue I've seen already, this should be the best Floatilla yet \:D

Hey Justin (Kid), no doubt it is going to be the best Floatilla. And the best part of this is us southern bo's gonna whup ass on the Waaaasie's on their home field advantage. Embarrassing! \:o ... Can you imagine your a-team guys coming to Tillamook when the river's are up and I'm dialed in - I would clean house along with my other local hommie A-teamers; limiting my boat before you any Waaaasie's could figure out where to cast (and that AIN'T no sh!t) ... BTW, important .....

..... We all need to meet at the decided morning time at the Hwy.12 Satsop launch parking lot (unless there is a late change to the Cowlitz or NF). Then we can draw numbers to determine the order of launching for any given launch site. And NOTE: Since there should be NO launching ahead of time to secure the honey holes or any boat racing to keep at the head of the other Floatilla boats to fish all the good holes first, instead of sportsmenship rotating the lead for fair equal chances, as far as I'm concerned such non-sportsmen should be DQ'd from the event ... and exposed in posts who they were! Keep this fair, and it will be certain fun!. And fun afterward too. \:\)

I sure wish I could upload a picture from yesterday on the lewis, but everytime I try and upload a picture it tells me I have 420000 bytes and it only allows 180000. We landed 39 yesterday and amongst 3 guys we kept 18 hens. 6 chinook and 12 silvers. Perhaps we should rethink it for the lewis, not for homecourt advantage but because the river is kegged full of fish and it's only the 7th of sept and it will be 10 times better a month from now. It's usually the hottest in the first two weeks of october. We are willing to come to the satsop though, we've never fished that river and we're ready for the challenge.
You oregonians might as well pack your bags and stay back at camp and cook! ;\)

Hey Keith, all the rivers will be plugged with fish in early October dude. Quit trying to fanaggle us to your home river where you and James know all the intracacies. That would be like me trying to lure your ass down to Tillamook for a spanking. \:D ... You guys have been posting challeges (such as to Bill Herzog and others or anyone) and aching for a showdown with any heavy hitters you can get to put up with your constant smack talkin. Well you gonna get that chance on a neutral river ('Sop) from many of us that haven't ever fished it for silvers, like me (unless it gets changed to the Cowlitz for lack of rain). And you will get your turn first on a few holes as we rotate fairly. I'm bringin my A-team 'Fatal Attraction' eggs plus additives, and a few Amerman eggs and some custom trick lures, so we will see how your cure and skills stand up on a neutral river. Since you keep asking for it, now your gonna get it. \:D ;\) ...

NOTICE: I was enlightened by an OR guy coming to the Floatilla that he will bring an ODFW kit that is foolproof to determine whether a fish was caught that same day or the previous day and kept stored in icy salt water, or whatever, and stashed by any fools. Not that he really thinks anyone would stoop so low and chance being caught and posted about - but you never know I suppose.

I was wondering if anyone has any maps of the Satsop with the luanch sites and maybe some of the major holes like H&F lies sometimes puts out. Being as I haven't touched a river let alone a salmon in a river for years I need all the cheats I can muster.

Also I think I may have a open seat in a driftboat. Would like to hookup with someone that knows the river and the fish.
I would give priority to a Dad with young son/daughter. E-mail me if interested.

I haven't fished this river since I was a kid and I didn't do well on it even then.
