4x4, (whoever you are)
Fishing isn't always competition, but I will be at Flotilla III for fun, the little bit of trash talking on the flotilla III thread is all for fun. RT will back me on that one. RT is going to go out with us on thursday and he himself can let you know what is happening. I'm not trying to say anything about being the best but the only thing I do is fish.
This thing about anyone can catch fish out of the meathole, well come on over or down or where ever you are from and let's see it. You're correct about catching a few but putting large #'s of fish in your boat consistently is another thing.
I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here, but come up thursday and fish the lewis there are plenty of fish to go around, at least for those who know how to catch them!
By the way who are you? At least let us know, you don't have to be shy! It is sort of cute that you have a new log on and you have only been registered since sept/01. Come out of the closet and let us know who you really are, that is since you said you had been reading and watching.
Keith

Ignore that poser, Keith.

Here's my "warm up" coho caught out in the salt this morning. Just getting ready for Floatilla III.

Oh, the big one is 14.6 pounds.

I'm just curious. Is it legal to keep silvers in saltwater with adipose fins?

Yeah, Parker nice fish. Looks like you had lots of fun. I'm sure that 14 lber pulled hard. I just wish I was computer literate enough to post some digital pictures to help out a little of the b.s. I've been talking about. I just don't know how to change the pixel size to downsize the picture to be able to upload it. Parker, help!!!!

Keith, you spent to much time on the river as a kid and now your computer illiterate! laugh laugh I'm sure a program came with the digital camera that can solve your problem. Or you probably have some other program (other than paint) that can resize pictures. Hey if you don't I could help you out on that. My second love to fishing is computers... No actually it is like 4th or 5th. Later.

Matt,
Well, I must say I could use help! I tried to downsize a picture and uploaded it and it turned out all blurry. Perhaps we'll truly have something to swapout now. A fishing trip for some computer knowledge. When would you be available to come over and work on this one?

First I want to say something to you 4X4 - if anyone is going to 'call out' someone they better have the balls to use their real name or they are just plain lame! I don't advocate invading privacy by checking into members ISP #s at all, but it is tempting to ask Bob to in your case. ...

I feel a long rant coming on here, because I'm on drugs tonight. laugh Just kidding! Well, more caffeine than I should have at this time of night! ... As for Keith (stlhdr1) I will say some things. I have communicated quite a bit with Keith by mail and phone, and via others that we mutually know. We are going to finally fish together this Thursday; given nothing unforeseen happening. What I will say is Keith is one of the great fishermen. He is also a good guy, despite being one of the best self promo smack talkers, for which I got in his face for a time or two. I've come to feel now that it's no big deal - it's because he is young (mid twenties) and good at what he does. His life and esteem are fishing. He is like a lot of very good fishermen in those regards; so again, not such a big deal. I was like that at his age when I would sometimes outfish whole boatloads of guides and their clients by myself from the bank. Couldn't wait to take the pics and start the smack talkin wink . Like Keith, I fished several days per week (even before I became a full-time guide) and I got very dialed into what it took to catch double figures of steelhead and salmon on certain rivers on any given week. Keith and his friends are doing this now. Things change from week to week and it's a tremendous advantage to be out there a lot to dial into what it's taking - including which cures, scents, and colors the fish have been in the mood for that week, or even all season - but very importantly, also where the fish are and are hitting the best. You can't compete with being out there a lot if you can't too; even if you might have an overall better knowledge base (which frustrates me these days because I only fish once or twice a week - but I usually make decent educated guesses of what to do). These guys are both good and dialed in big time and they are catching loads of fish - I doubt very much they are exagerating from what I've heard from mutual friends. I am looking forward to learning some things fishing with him this week and other times. I especially need to learn more about the intracacies of the 'full of fish' NF. I will dial him in on the Tillamook rivers sometime in exchange (Mark A. and I have had many double figure days on the Wilson this past year or so - including during a filmed outdoor TV show; yes, partly good luck). And I will tell you about his expected excellant egg cure after trying it a few times. ... Please excuse the long rant - sometimes I am a 'ramblin kind of guy', as Steve Martin used to say after drinking coffee smile .

As for the smack talkin, when I first got into moderating fishing BBs I was adverse to it. But I have slowly been brought back into it meself rolleyes laugh . Anyone who reads the Floatilla III threads have seen me post some ugly smack talkin trash. It's mostly all in fun and not really very serious. So I have learned to be more tolerant of guys that want to blow their horn publicly. But ultimately, letting the bent rods do the talking for you draws more respect in the long run. It's something I learned, forgot again when caught up in the sheeyat, and am re-learning again; as Keith will with time. ... Really looking forward to fishing with ya this week dude. Fun! smile

Edit: BTW Parker, I see ya got that timing thing working a little better. Way to go; nice fishies. (With his good ethic, I'm sure those adipose fins were legal where they caught them).

Want to know how to fish the Lewis? Ask Keith, he'll tell you where to go, what to use and how to use it. How many people will put out that kind of info on their home river? He's put a lot of good info out on the Lewis, use it and don't be such a smart @ss.

Hey badmisterevil, might want to try reading the regs before posting such questions on the board. What did you really think the answer would be?

I have an early release from school, so I get out at about 1:15. I'm starting to go fishing everyday after school, but if you need help I can make some time. Today and Tuesday I plan on doing early goose season hunts from 4:00pm to dusk. This Wednesday I am doing frosh camp (mandatory). Thursday and Friday I am open after school or in the evening. Just give me your schedule and we'll make things work.

This is the first day I have had a chance to check this site in awhile due to fishing so much. This thread caught my eye. Keith and I kinda just figured out who each other was this past summer. Turns out that we have seen each other on the SW WA rivers for years now.
Anyway, to sum up my thoughts on this thread: 4x4, you're full of #$%^ and are simply using up our air". Go attack your Mom.
See ya on the river Keith,

Yeah,

I bet mister 4x4 is one of those meth head, trailer trash Orygunners who got their Macintosh at the salvation army thrift store thinking it was a MAC 10, only to find out that there was no place to put bullets in it. Then he went and stole cable access and now has a pirated cable link to get on the net after someone told him it was 'puter and he could find naked picks of his mom and sister, and goats (lots of goats) on them internet websites. He did a search for "PP" and got this website by mistake (meatgazer).

He's the type of guy I alluded to earlier, you know, the armchair fisherman that reads about fishing on the net, and then uses some bootleg photo shop program to place his mug over the faces of us real fishermen and our catch. That or he just assumes someone elses photo identity.

Best of all, he doesn't really drive a 4x4, nor has he ever shot a 4x4 deer or elk. He really drives a Renault LeCar, primer and lime green in color, and poaches deer, usually does and fawns, with either a stolen crossbow or his .22 with a PVC silencer. He hasn't gotten close enough to a cow yet, at least one that doesn't moo. I won't tell you what he does with the naughty bits from the lady deer. It is just too horrific. eek eek eek

Deal with that, you lurker. mad mad mad

Andy

Andy,
Easy now, I'm just rolling here. You need to get on the flotilla III thread and turn loose. That's some of the best smack talking that I've ever seen.
Anyhow, thanks guys for sticking up for little old me, I apologize for the feelings I've hurt, but when you catch fish you catch fish. All I want to do is get everyone in on the excitement and get them up to the lewis where their are more fish to catch than I've ever seen. Just wait until the beginning of october when we start talking about boating 60-100 fish a day like we did in 1997. James and I had one day that consisted of 109 boated, 92 silvers and 17 chinook. Our goal is to break that record this year, and that goes for everyone on this board, this is a river that you can set records. Those records that make you say "Yeah Right"...

Amidst all the support for STLHDR1, we're missing something. Badmisterevil asked a good question about keeping coho with intact adipose fins (indicating a wild fish). Parker, in a rather pointed post, indicated that he ought to check the regs before asking such questions. Fortunately Parker was kind enough to provide the website for the WDFW.

I thought the original question was appropriate since I didn't think it was legal to keep coho with their adipose fins intact. So, in an effort to educate myself regarding the latest regs, I downloaded the WDFW news release from Sept 6. Here's what it reads (take note of the last sentance):

"September 6, 2001
Contact: Doug Milward: (360) 902-2739

Westport salmon fishery open every day;
Areas of Marine Area 1 close for the year

OLYMPIA – Coastal salmon fishing in the Westport area will be open seven days a week to allow anglers to catch more of the hatchery coho that are returning to state waters in large numbers this year, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.

Previously closed Fridays and Saturdays, the fishery will move to a seven-days-per-week schedule Friday, Sept. 7 in Marine Area 2 and Area 2-2 west of the Buoy 13 line.

Also effective Friday, Sept. 7, Marine Area 1 near Ilwaco will be closed to salmon fishing from Klipson Beach to North Head and south of Tillamook Head. As always, the Columbia River Mouth Control Zone east of Buoy 10 will remain closed to protect juvenile salmon.

However, the area north of Klipson Beach will remain open seven days per week to give anglers access to the large numbers of hatchery coho moving south toward the Columbia, said Doug Milward, WDFW ocean salmon manager.

"We're trying to give anglers every opportunity to catch those hatchery coho that exceed our hatchery needs," Milward said. "The fishing is absolutely fantastic out there right now, and we want to keep the fishery going as long as possible."

The daily bag limit coastwide is two salmon, only one of which can be a chinook. All wild coho, identifiable from their intact adipose fin, must be released."

Seems clear to me. Based on what I know and what the news release indicates, I plan to release all coho with their adipose fins intact, regardless of where I catch them (saltwater or freshwater). If anyone has any information to indicate that keeping coho with adipose fins is legal, please let me know (along with the rest of us).

cohoangler,

From the regs, which you can find at http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/regs/2001/01regs-2.pdf
I believe that areas 5, 8-1, 8-2, 9, 10, 11 and 12 allow retention of wild coho right now.

I don't think wild coho release is listed under the "general rules" section of the game regs pamphlet.
If memory serves, since I don't have a copy with me,Marine Area 9 has no listing under the special rules for coho. That means the general rules apply and wild coho are legal in the area Parker most likely fished.
