Does anyone have any knowledge on the Grays Harbor Kings fishery? Where would we launch and what fishing techniques have proved successful? Thought I heard something about the mouth of John's River; also heard that it reaches its peak end of September early October...

Our hearts go out to all those affected in September 11th's tragic events; God Bless you all!

You can launch at Johns River, you take a left turn after crossing the Johns river bridge. You can see the launch as you cross the bridge. Plug cut herring and a flasher work as do other types of ocean trolling
methods. Another good location is the 28th st launch in Hoquiam, it is off of 28th st
in the Port Dock area. People head toward
the area around the airport after launching.
Same type of fishing. These are not secret spots, just look for the boats and you will know where to fish.

Thanks for the response, Local. My husband and I were contemplating driving out there next weekend (we are coming from Olympia) and we were hoping to get an idea if the King fishery would be the worth the travel. Is is as good as they say; we have a 19 ft. Bayliner which launch would be ok for that size boat?
Thanks for the tips!

Use the 28th St Launch it is modern and set up for the larger boats.
The manager of the Swansons store in Aberdeen cought a 50 plus and a 38 pound chinook last week trolling cut plug and a green fish flash, make sure you are here to fish the incoming and slack tides and bring herring alot of the local places have been running out it seems.
Good Luck.

Does anyone know how to find out what the gillnet schedule is for Grays Harbor. I hate trying to compete with nets :p

the nets went in today at noon and take out wensday at noon or there abouts. They are hitting the kings in good numbers i sat and watched it for an hour today and the nets were hauling them in...Last week it was the state commercial boys who made the fishing slow down this week the tribe will knock it down to nothing....From what i understand the tribe is in two days a week for four weeks. eek

Its probably 2-3 miles. Be careful! Stay in the channel when your steaming and watch the wind waves it gets ugly quick.
