I fish area 11(the one with Vashon Island) and where I fish the bait is real, real, real small. At about 10:00 I'll be out at my point just casting, and not usually catching anything and some times I'll accidently snag a little bait fish cuz they surface ball all around be and I cast to them. But when trolling we usually use herring that is way to big.
So anyone know where to buy 1" herring (or something) or does anyone know of a good casting net that I could catch these suckers with.
The most luck I have is with a home made white buzz bomb and a green stripe down the side. I caught a 3' salmon on one this summer 5 min. row from my cabin but while measuring it (I'm not a good judge and don't like taking the little guys) he broke the line and fell back into the water. I was so mad at myself for not measuring over the boat.
So what casting net or where do I get little herring. and does anyone fish around the ferry dock much?
It takes me about 45 minutes to get there in my old row boat and I never catch anything. oh and who fishes prospect point. that place is supposed to be great but I've only been once and the seal was circling.
  I hate seals.
sorry for rambling, thanks for the responses

Been to Dolphin Point a couple of times and fished the ferry dock. Don't much care for that BIG boats attitude though (the one with all the cars), keeps getting in my way!
As far as solving your bait size problem how about using a cut plug herring. Buy the smallest size and by the time it's plug cut, you might be close to what you're looking for.
How's Vashon been for fishing lately? Haven't been there in awhile.

As the story goes it's been good for everyone but me. Southern end of that area is getting really good fishing, and a couple of big fish are getting through the area. I heard of someone up in Seattle catching something around a 50 lb. salmon off a pier. The paper says dolphin point still produces, and I'm not sure what they are, but there are a bunch of fish out there with really green upper boies, might be steelhead? that's what they look like in my rule book.
But I usually stay around my cabin which is just short of ***aria and it's been a little slow. Lot's of fish jumping, but I have trouble catching them, might try fly fishing next time I see them jumping so much. The fish really come out when all the nasy green stuff and cr** starts to float.
also that prospect point is supposed to be an unknown hot spot so I'm gona start fishing there more.
  thanks, ben

Fishnhide, Nest time your out on the salt, try putting out a small trout rod with a smelt jig set-up and let hang down down about 30' or so while your fishing. Check it once in awhile and you will be suprised how many herring you"ll get, and it's legal too. Cigar

Cigar awesome idea. I saw somebody do that once but don't have never seen one of those lines with hundreds of hooks on them in the store. That is a good idea.
Is there any trick to making your own? I've never seen them in the stores.
the stores I check usually are: outdoor imporium GI joe's Sports Authority Fred Meyers (for tthe herring) and sometimes Gart.
Could you give me some info on how to build one? THat is an awesome idea.

Fishnhide, Just ask for Smelt jig leaders, if ya make your own, us 4-6 lb leader....3-4 feet long and tie on about four gold egg hooks size 10 and top each hook with two or three different color beads, then put a 1 ounce sinker on the bottom and you are all set. Cigar
