About 3 weeks ago I was out fishing for silvers with a couple of guys. We found a sweet hole and were getting the fish on spinners. One guy had one and I took the hook out of the fish. It was hooked right on the top of his snout. The fish swam away and the guy started fishing again. About 3 casts later he hooks a fish and it wasn't fighting very well. It turned out to be the same fish. You could see a small hole in the top of his snout where the hook was before. The second time the hook was on top of the snout about a centimeter from the last hookup. The fish had to have bit twice, but it ended up on top of the snout.

Just because the hook ended up on the outside of the mouth, doesnt mean the fish "didnt voluntarily take the lure into its mouth" which is the way the fishing rule/reg book states.
I fish with spinners/spoons probably 60-70% of the time while river fishing, and have hooked several in this manner. I used to rig a small bead chain behind the spinner with the hook attached aft of it. It increased my rate of landing fished which were hooked (many of which inside the mouth) but also increased the times the hook was on the outside of the mouth, I also fish exclusively the siwash style single hooks on my hardware. I have since stopped the bead chain rig and gone to a smaller hook (size 1 hook/ size 4 spinner) and this "problem" is less frequent.

Hiya Bronc! You onery old cuss, How ya doing? It was nice meeting you a couple weeks back on the Kalama.
I hooked alot of silvers in the head outside the mouth while throwing spinners or plugs. They seem to slash at the lure, miss it with their mouth and get stuck in the head. Were they intentionally snagged? No. Were they lined? I think not. Who cares anyways?
Lets drop the snagging topics, its getting really old! Intsead of putting up itch posts, put up some tech posts or write about past experiences. Everyone likes a good fish story. Better yet, go get all your steelhead gear in order so when the rivers finally drop you can get out and be 10% prepared for the good fishing that is to be had. Then you can come back and put up posts about all those steelhead you caught.
Now I wll go and rearrange my vest for the 100th time.
