Actually I did avoid a lot of the crowd by drifting from the Barrier damn to Mission. Luckily I ran into a few nice Steelies and a handful of not so nice Silvers, but it was nice to have a little peace above the zoo for most of the day. I only saw half a dozen boats above blue creek and hit all but one of my fish up there. It all went downhill when I hit the crowd. Still, no matter how you look at it a day on the river beats the *#$@ out of any other day.

I fished the river today below ZOO CREEK. I (we) did not have the river or the fish to our selves.

That is the worst I have ever seen it the guides where having a hard time. We did get a shot of fresh fish but the fish are smallermostly three to five pound. We stayed out all day released 6 kept 4 lost 5 the only big one was at the end of the run.

We were anchored up and we saw a kid about 12-15 years of age land about a 15lb'er. This was after he went up and downstream about 3 or 4 times. We could not believe that battle this kid had with this fish. Very entertaining.

Fished the Cowlitz today in my partners sled. The 3 of us went 8 for 9 and kept 6 hatchery brats. We also pulled an angler from the river who managed to sink his 12 foot boat just above us. Pretty scary situation. We pulled him into our boat as other boaters rescued his gear that was floating. We managed to get his boat to the shore but both his outboards were gone. He's a very lucky man to be alive today.
