I have been hearing some good things about the new line. I know some of the guys at local shops have had a chance to fish this and the early results were all positive. I have heard that the local fly shops will be selling them by Jan 15th.
has any one on this board had a chance to use the 555, and if so what do you think?

I havent fished the 555 but I have performed the parking lot test.

I was very impressed with the casting charecteristics especially when compared to the standard 444.

It also sounds like the line may fish very well if you are looking for a dryline as the design of this line allows it ride higher up in the water as it less dense then standard floating lines.

Cortland has had trouble with the coating on the line from what I have heard, hence the delay. It makes me weary as the last major breakthough for Cortland was the Lazer and they had major problems with cracking of the out coating on that line.

Another line I have been very impressed with that is new for 2002 is Rio's Slick Shooter process. They have come very very close to cracking the AST coating (the best on the market) of SA. The AST coating creates lines that shoot like no other.

I agree. I like the Sa very much.
I almost purchased the Lazer line earlier this year but was told not to get it. The 444 sl was better then the Lazer. I hope this 555 will have the same concept as the 444sl with the new improvements. I too have heard and read that the 555 floats extremly well. I well wait and see.

After the Lazer line fiasco, I will be waiting for a while before I get any new model line from Cortland. I intend to wait a bit, and let other folks sort through the longevity issues. I used to love the 444SL, though the new SA lines with the AST coating are pretty darn good, and my current dry lines are SA's.

I had done some more reserch and I think even Cortland was aware of the Lazer problems so I believe that the 555 will actually redeem cortland. I hope. I will be purchasing the new 555 and test it out for my self. I am sold on my SA but I have to try the new line.
