Hertzog suggests the use of a Thin Blade Spoon as a changeup lure for winter steelhead. However on the rivers I fish the rock demons claim more than their share of these spoons.
I have resorted to a cheap howmebrew version made from a #7 or 8 colorado or Indiana spinner blade. I put a golf ball in my bench vise and rest the front end of the blade on it and use a rubber hammer to shape a reverse curve on the front of the blade.
When rigged with a sliding lead in front of the swivel or with a slinkey this blade has a seductive side to side wobble that gives off a bright flash and draws fish from hiding.

Thanks for the great idea Coot. I've been lurking for a while and have gotten some great info from this board, such as this post. So I'm throwing my hat into the ring to keep from feeling guilty about getting so much from you folks and not giving back. Thanks to Bob and all for creating such a great forum.

Coot -

Your attitude and information sharing (see his homemade spinner pic as well) have helped bring me from the status of lurker to a willing participant on this board as well. I am planning on making my own TBS's from now on...what a great idea! Thanks for being willing to share your ideas.
