I am just hoping that someone can give me some pointers on the Salmon river. I've only fished it once and would like to know what water level is the best or how high it can get and still be fishable at, were to go and what is best to use (baits, colors, etc.)I would really appreciate some feedback, thanks.

salmon river is best to fish when it is falling after a freshet. a good place to fish is in the gorge below the bridge. eggs work great, spinners and spoons also work. i have fished the salmon river when it is high and muddy. the fish hang out close to shore in slower water. drop some eggs in about 5 ' off shore and you have a good chance of catching one.

Ripalip,
You might want to check out a topo map of the area. The gorge area is on the Quinanult Indian Reservation. Without a Tribal guide, the area is off limits.
For decent 1:24000 topo maps online try Trails.com . You can find the area with Reservation boundaries and National Park boundaries.

If you want the right USGS map, it is the West Salmon River map. It will show you the areas that are open, and with your GPS set on UTM grid, you can stay north of the line.

Gotcha. Having grown up in Missouri, I'm still getting used to the terrain here. Canyons or gorges don't call me quite like they do you, although I've been up and down the Wind River slopes a time or two.

I would not trespass. If that area belonged to anyone else beside Indians then we would say shoot the damn trespassers but since it belongs to Indians then it is ok to do it.
