Alright guys and girls, fellow fishery experts, I got an allowence from the wife for a new pole and reel when I get back from Kosovo, and a 200 $ limit. What should it be? I already have a Berkeley 8'6", nice action with a Shimano Cuarado on it, and a Lamiglas norwest 8'6" with a Calcutta 250 on it. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

It appears that spinning reels are gaining popularity here on the board for casting light float & jig setups. Maybe a 10.5' rod with a Shimano spinning reel? should be able to find a quality combination in the $200 range. Lots of threads lately with some good info and recommendations in them.

i have the same rod reel combos and am pretty happy with both. i'm a little reckless to own a really nice rod. how about taking your money and treating yourself to a guided op trip later this spring for some big nates?

FJ,
That is what I hear, longer rods, my wife says the same thing, but feels that 200 won't help out in the bedroom, ha ha. I am thinking about 9-9.5 footers, can't afford the loomis or another lamiglas, though that would be nice. What do you recommend?

Actually, I would say go to Auburn Sports and or Sportco and focus on rods in your price range in 9' to 10' lengths. Bring a friend so that they can hold the rod tip while you gently lift up on the rod. Watch the action or bend and match it up to
the type of fishing you plan to use it for. Personally I like a faster action which gives good sensitivity at the tip yet has the backbone also.

Just my .02...don't get a Shimano Rod!
